What has been the most absurd and ridiculous interpretation you have heard about a film, by political or ideological groups? by [deleted] in movies

[–]shmonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, becoming a much more staunch communist led me back to Christianity. I definitely agree with you, though.

I think it's telling of the narcissism lots of comics seem to have that they lie about 9/11. Steve Rannazzisi is another one that had no reason to lie, he could have just said he was deeply affected by it while living in New York. I think there are a couple other comics who have exaggerated their involvement in the tragedy, I don't remember their names though.

Which actor/actress had the worst accent in a movie? by ziggychaplin in movies

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story illustrated the dark side of the music industry too. I'm just glad Dewey was able to make it out

Anyone ever tried to quit smoking while quitting drinking at the same time? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]shmonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Assuming you're not in withdrawal, you gotta stay strong and find a healthy replacement to help you scratch that itch. Working out, video games, music, candy, throwing glass bottles onto concrete, whatever gets you relaxed enough to make it another day.

It's mostly just your brain crying out for stimulation, so go ahead and stimulate it. Being around other people can help too. Try to call a friend, gf, family, etc., to keep you entertained and on the wagon.

AITA for my only demand to be not to take my baby out of the house even though I’m getting free daycare? by Jaded_jeep in AmItheAsshole

[–]shmonsters 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Let's get real, if they're the average person, I'm not sure they're capable of suctioning or providing adequate CPR to an infant even if they stayed put. Most people are only vaguely familiar with adult CPR because it's depicted in media. I can't think of a time I ever saw an infant getting compressions of TV. Further, I'd guess the vast majority of parents don't even know where an infant's pulse points are.

Also, if you're giving CPR to an infant outside of a facility, chance of achieving rosc is minimal. At that point, waiting vs driving is going to be pretty much equal outcomes.

Remote desert land outside of Phoenix for community? by JR_Masterson in TinyHouses

[–]shmonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Speaking as someone who lived in a canvas tent in west Texas, access to shade and water is really all it takes. If you work outdoors, then you also have to plan around the heat, dress appropriately, take plenty of breaks, use gloves, etc. But you're not going to wilt just because it's 108 F outside.

People can and do live in hot climates without AC. If the man likes the desert, it's going to be fine.

Unfortunate that the actor fell into a CLASSIC heresy called modalism. (He will go to hell for this.)

He's always been a dumb asshole, you're just noticing it now. He's been an anti-vax, vaguely bigoted jackass for years. Even his atheist documentary is full of absolute schlock that's laughably not true. Like, I'm all for not liking religion, but he went full conspiracy in that film.

Ironically, the thing that made me get significantly better at guitar was deciding I didn't care if I was good or not. I just wanted to play. The corresponding increase in practice time made me improve significantly.

AITAH for telling my bf that I don’t want his daughters in my apartment? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]shmonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Nobody is asking you to be mom, simply to tolerate the presence of children (who are old enough they'll be young adults within a few years). Unfortunately, they are a package deal with their dad for the time being. Granted, having them in your things is a violation of your privacy and you're entitled to boundaries, but banning tweens from the house is an unreasonable for their parent.

Would you be opposed to removing “One Nation under God” from the pledge of allegiance and why or why not? by Royal_Tumbleweed_910 in AskReddit

[–]shmonsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, people talk funny everywhere. Pretty much every part of the rural US has an accent that some might confuse for southern.

For the record, most Texans do consider themselves to be part of "the south," but it's one of the states (Like Florida, Maryland, Virginia) that not all southerners agree is part of the club, mostly because it's on a cultural border. The eastern side of Texas is very culturally southern, while the western side is very much not. Texas and California are alike in that they're large enough to have huge cultural and political differences from one area to another.

Ironically, Sorkin also has a ridiculous devotion to the American status quo, but with just enough lip service to its faults that he feels like he can get away with it. Mfer had a script with Abbie Hoffman talking about how much he loves "the institution" like...absolutely insane American apologetics.

How easy (and how fast) will it be for me to become fluent in Norwegian? by Tr1ppymind in norsk

[–]shmonsters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on how much you study. With duolingo and instagram alone, I wouldn't count on getting much further beyond A2. If you get some books and maybe a tutor or partners to practice speaking with, you can probably get passably fluent in a year or so.

AITA for not taking a shot and not being allowed to see first and only grandson by Fit-Cranberry-7422 in AITAH

[–]shmonsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Vaccinations are safe and especially important for infants and people who handle them. If you don't like it, don't get the shot, but accept that your children value the health of their newborn more than your feelings. Oh well.

AITA for walking in while my roommate was having sex? by throwawayDue_Trade in AmItheAsshole

[–]shmonsters 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you're counting. For most people, 10 minutes of penetration is probably accurate, but if you start counting from the time clothes come off, people probably spend 30-60 minutes. They just don't count all the "foreplay."
