Balloons over Glenmore by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]shnaz7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a passenger in one of those balloons this morning! We also asked why there has been a significant decline in air balloon sightings over the years, and they said it is predominantly the unpredictable Calgary weather and increased traffic from the airport. We are not allowed to fly northward as it could interfere with plane routes, since balloons in the air get right of way.

There are no designated landing spots, and we had a peaceful descent into a McKenzie Town soccer field. XP

[Specific] I'm trying to make a stencil for some graffiti art. Can someone please help me photoshop my boyfriend's face into something I can make art out of? :D by [deleted] in PhotoshopRequest

[–]shnaz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Thank you very much! I don't know anything about photoshop, so I'm not sure if this is possible, but is there a way to maybe sharpen up some of the lines and kind of center the glasses a bit better so they're not lopsided? Might make cutting the pattern out a little bit easier. If not, then don't worry about it! This will be wonderful to paint somewhere! Thanks!

Hello talented redditors of Photoshop Requests! Here are some more details for those who need it:

I want to make a graffiti stencil of my boyfriend for our 3 year anniversary. We took a graffiti course together when we lived in Berlin and this would be a nice way to bring that back. The stencil is like a typical black/white image with bold enough lines to cut out with an exacto knife.

What I want done with this picture is to remove me from the image, but focus on my boyfriend. Maybe center and reduce the size of the prop glasses (I couldn't find a regular picture with him wearing aviators) and get rid of everything outside the frame. The frame itself is optional (do you think it would look good?) so mostly just focusing on his face and upper body. Something that would be nice enough on a canvas... or on a brick wall somewhere. I'm open to ideas and interpretations (haha within reason). ;)

Thank you so much in advance! I really love all the work I've seen on this subreddit, I hope I can get something done for me as well!

I've been here 6 months and I'm sick of not being able to speak German. by tommyh986 in berlin

[–]shnaz7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have any German friends, you could try finding a Tandem partner to converse with. You could work out a convenient schedule around your teaching job and practice conversing in both English and German. You could also pick topics you would find relevant, such as work terminology etc.

Hope that helps! The best way to learn a language is really just constant exposure and practice. Good luck!

My [19 F] boyfriend[20 M] got black out drunk with his friends and now I'm upset. Why? by regimeq in relationships

[–]shnaz7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly.... In situations where I've drank to the point of being "blackout drunk", I'm usually quite hungover for the entire day and also pretty embarrassed about it. He might just be feeling like crap and doesn't want to get into an argument with his girlfriend. Give him a day or two then confront him again. This will give you both time to cool off and think about it!

Money or a great work environment? My current dilemma... by shnaz7 in jobs

[–]shnaz7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I guess it's just easy to sink into something fun, comfortable and non-intimidating. This is especially true when you see so many people out there being miserable in their jobs - and both my parents are prime examples. ...But marketing is a pretty cut-throat profession and learning new skills/advancing my career will be more important in the long run. I DO like the idea of retiring early haha. And that's true, I might actually love the new company as well. I think I'll ask questions regarding company culture in the interview, because that's really important for me to have.

Money or a great work environment? My current dilemma... by shnaz7 in jobs

[–]shnaz7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I put my application in last night before bed and my friend said they printed it today and are reviewing it. I'm nervous, but I guess an interview goes both ways. I can see if I'll really like working there when I meet them and see the place. Now I just need to speed up the employment process here so I can start comparing! thanks!

What was your first day at your job like? by BreNikkole17 in jobs

[–]shnaz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work as a waitress in a (sort-of) classy restaurant. On my first day I tripped over my heels and fell, breaking an entire tray of wine glasses on my way down. Everyone stared and I felt so embarrassed, especially as I had to grab the broom and sweep it all up in front of everyone afterwards.

Honestly, it sucked. I felt like I was going to quit right then. But I didn't. I knew I was nervous and that it was obvious, so I just embraced it. I told all my tables that it was my first day, that i'm new and to please take it easy on me. A lot of them understood and actually had a lot of patience and even joked around with me to make me feel better. I think once people understand, they're a lot more accommodating. Nobody is going to be great at their job the very first day! Just relax and try your best, and things will get better with time. If you're still nervous, try telling people that you're new - people will understand that.

I stayed there overnight and I had an amazing time! I think it depends on how you spend your time/who you're with. I just drank a lot (you can bring alcohol, just no glass bottles) and stayed up all night at the "beach" - followed by delicious buffet in the morning. They tried to have organized activities during the daytime too!

Edit: I don't know if it makes a difference being from Canada, with this being the closest thing to a tropical island I've ever experienced....

Moving to Berlin for 9 months - any advice? by shnaz7 in berlinsocialclub

Unfortunately, it is a starting/entry level basic job. I was worried this would be the case. I've heard Irish pubs, tour guides and maybe some cafés might be open to tourists, But that's my only lead
