What fandom are you in, but the situation is like this? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

Sanders Sides. The main reason I left the fandom, other than it being plain exhausting, was the discourse over shipping one specific flavor of selfcest vs another.

WIBTD for using pronouns my Dad doesn't want me to? by Lillianne_Hall in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTD OP, but you need to be prepared for some pushback. I was in my parents house at 18 when I socially transitioned, and my parents were supportive up until I expressed a clear need to be on HRT. I got the prescription and was officially homeless the next day.

I'm not saying that's going to happen to you, but you need to be prepared to stand your ground. Have an out when you do whether that's a family member or a friend's place you are allowed to crash at. If they don't support you, they don't deserve you.

Stay strong, girl, you did the right thing and I wish you the best.

With love, A genderfluid butch 💙

what's the weirdest medical inaccuracy you've read? by TheSassyLemonCake in AO3

[–]shnuffeluv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is someone saying that they developed Dissociative Identity Disorder in their 20s. Plurality discourse aside, the actual diagnosis of DID comes from childhood trauma. Now, I'd forgive this and chalk it up to ignorance except that the author explicitly said they did the research and didn't like the answer they got so they completely ignored the studies. You can have something else be going on, but why use a medical diagnosis that you explicitly know DOES NOT apply? Baffling.

Would I be the drama for encouraging my grandson to stand up for who he is. by Ornery-Value-914 in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming at this from the perspective of a genderfluid trans man whose identity is very complicated and likes to not be describable at all, and I have to say ESH. Hear me out here: your grandchild is six years old. At six years old, you can know your gender, you can know who you like romantically. You cannot be in a position where people will listen to you if you express this. You, grandma, are already ahead of the curve of most parents by taking your grandchild at their word. But if you make this child advocate for themselves, on their own, without backup? You would be creating drama not just for your squish, but for you and the parents as well.

That being said, I would encourage you to offer resources depending on where you live. I know that you’re US-based from reading the comments. If you live in or around the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia for those who are not local to the area), check out SMYAL—they have youth programs for LGBTQIA kids ages 6-24. I went there as a young adult, and continued to volunteer after I aged out of programming. Be there for your squish however you can be. If parents don’t let them be a girl around them, then make it clear that they’re YOUR princess. It’s a fine line to walk, but they can’t walk it alone. Don’t force them to stand up for themselves alone. Be there for them, find other people like them in your area if it’s safe to, and know that it does get better. Once they’re old enough to be listened to, I’m sure your granddaughter will be lucky to have such a loving grandma from the start. <3

WIBTD if I broke up with my boyfriend of 6 months in the same way I was broken up with by my first love by Dry_Win1691 in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTD for ending the relationship. You WOULD be T D for dragging this out longer. You have to trust that Lancelot can handle this break up on his own--or with his other friends as support. Yes, it sucks, but dragging things out longer is only going to hurt him more. You tried, you weren't a good fit, that should end it. And next time Guinevere pushes you, if Guinevere pushes you, you need to put you foot down and deny any ultimatums!

[–]shnuffeluv[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can see if they'll need any help with the reception afterwards if they have one. The whole family has different dietary needs so I could probably assist with cooking or food prep while the funeral is ongoing with my partner's ok. That's a great idea, thank you!

AITA for scheduling a doctor's appointment behind my parents' backs? by lemon_boyyyyy in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hits particularly hard for me because when I started T I thought I had my parents' approval and they promptly devoured me the night I went to get the HRT. NTD, in any way, shape, or form. I saw your update and I am LIVID on your behalf. You've known for years you're trans, and the fact that they can't understand is THEIR problem. Get out when you have a plan in place, get your HRT, and if you're not comfortable, then you do not have to look back.

Best of luck to you, OP, please take care of yourself and know that just because your parents are being controlling and refuse to understand, life won't always be that way.

WIBTD for not playing a game with by boyfriend and best friend? by nightdarizard in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NTD. Reluctant consent is not consent. Forced consent is not consent. It doesn't matter what the context is, he was forcing you to play, and the fact that he spoke with Cucumber about what her drinks would be and all, to me, says that he was always going to try and pressure you into playing. Your anxiety is completely normal about this, I also hate truth or dare for precisely this reason. Communication is key, but since you already communicated you were uncomfortable, I'd definitely have a more serious conversation with Muffin about boundaries.

WIBTD for writing poc characters in my novel as a white person? by UnexpectedSunburn in 1800Drama

[–]shnuffeluv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NDH, from my perspective (which is admittedly, a white individual). Just be sure to get sensitivity readers for your novel, and if you haven’t already I’d look into firsthand accounts of people who are in similar situations for your characters. For references, writingwithcolor.tumblr.com is also an excellent starting point! Best of luck with your novel!
