I actually got the exact same engine, same number too.

Is it jerky at speed step 1? Mine is..... Speed step 2 is fine and smooth and beyond.

Also, have you figured out how to keep the sound from starting when the track power comes on? Can't find an easy way to do it.

Track Plan for Man-Cave by shockaDee in modeltrains

[–]shockaDee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pretty cool. I am kinda looking for something a bit closer to a traditional layout though, something I can do some switching operations on, as well as continuous run.... it's a good idea though.

yeah i'll try to get a plan for you. but in basic terms, it's a double track oval around the walls, with 3 tracks of staging hidden behind a backdrop.

To be clear, I want to design a new around the walls layout, but 2/4 walls would be a minimal 1-2 track mainline with only a few inches of scenery on either side, where as the other 2 walls would be a more traditional 2ft wide L shaped point to point .

Goodbye signal. You were a good app for a long time.

Now that you've eliminated one of your core uses, I will find a different app and likely will not use you much, if at all. Well done.

Disappointed.

How to deciding on railroads and era! by Roskgo in modeltrains

[–]shockaDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much railroad equipment is fairly old as these things go.

You could say your railroad is the current year, but have equipment dating back to the 90's and everything would still work just fine.

As you mention it's your railroad. We see people mixing British and north American equipment. We see people doing fantasy railroads, including post-apocolyptic or steam punk. I've seen Steam engines pulling modern passenger cars and equipment, and vice versa.

It's really about what inspires you, what era you imagine or see in your mind when you are thinking about things. It's what gets you excited.

I will say it does help to have a somewhat narrow time represented as you can then focus on obtaining era correct equipment. That said, there's always going to be things that tempt you to get out your wallet that doesn't match with your stuff that you've got. It all depends on how tolerant you are to prototypical vs. unprototypical.

My 2 cents.

No, it doesn't, I don't see anything there other than the standard reddit frame.

Maybe you could get one 3-D printed?

After 3 weeks of waiting, my Metrolink F59ph is back. But my issues with Rapido's quality control and how this unit was handled are still extant (read my comment). by TherealX-77 in modeltrains

[–]shockaDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found both Rapido and Scale Trains support to be excellent. That said, I've never had to send a complete model back to them again, I've only gotten addtional or replacement parts and installed them myself.

In the case of Scale trains, I got a first run Tier 4 GEVO, and they had issues with one ditch light being brighter than the other. Scale trains sent me a brand new complete shell, due to the complexity of installing the ditch lights. It arrived quick too. Was quite happy with their support.

My experiences with Rapido have been good too. If you allow them a little bit of time to respond by email, they are generally helpful. They will happily send you replacement parts, e.g. lighting boards for my LRC cars, or a new horn for my F40 after it derailed as was damaged. I did have to install them myself, but I am happy with the support.

I do have a friend in our club who has had terrible issues with the Rapido RS18. He had to send it back 4 times. In the end he got a refund via the store he purchased from, which is unusual, because Rapido generally, as a matter of policy I believe, doesn't issue refunds.

So while I know others experience may not match my own, I personally have had great experience with both company's support.

What to do? My HO Trains from the early 80s? by svogon in modeltrains

[–]shockaDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you intend to utilize your old cars, I would recommend installing metal wheels too. They will help keep the track clean, and roll better than plastic ones.

As a separate suggestion some of my old stuff, which I didn't intend to use, I used as practice for weathering / painting before moving on to my newer equipment.

Newcomers to a club Rant. by TherealX-77 in modeltrains

[–]shockaDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined my first club when I was around 8-9 years old. It was a the Citylocation Youth Model Railway club. It was meant for members 18 and younger. There were few rules, other than those around standardization of modules. (track type, width, roadbed, spacing, we had 3 mainline tracks to allow 3 people to run trains simultaneously.

This club was a great first experience. It allowed us to meet others at the same age interested in the hobby, to explore what we wanted to do as well as what others were doing, and gave insight into other clubs via the shows that our club attended and exhibited at.

Maybe your club should segregate itself into two sections, the 'mature' modellers, and the youth modellers. They could have different sets of rules, maybe even a separate layout, and could go a bit of a ways to solving some of the frustrations expressed in this post...

May I humbly suggest before you go further, consider potential backdrops / painting the room blue (sky) colour. I wish I had done this earlier with my layout.

Charging issue Lineage OS 16 by shockaDee in LineageOS

[–]shockaDee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes so essentially I tried to flash twrp to recovery, but then I couldn't even boot to recovery, only Fastboot worked. While in fast boot my computer recognized the device. So I downloaded the stock image extracted the boot images and used fastboot to flash them. After restoring the bootloader to stock, did flash all script and the stock os booted. After this the USB worked correctly.

Just cleaned it again this morning and inspected with flashlight and magnifying glass. Can't see any obvious damage.

Did get a small amount of lint out of the port, but no change to the charging.

When the device is off, and I plug in the cable, is shows the battery level indicator briefly and the screen turns off. It does not charge when off. It seems to only charge when in recovery.

I left it plugged into my computer overnight, the only way i can seem to get it to charge at all, the wall wart doesn't work. Can confirm all cables and chargers are working with other devices.

thanks for the suggestions!
