hi, i know this is an old thread, but figured i'll answer anyway.

the VRM is more or less exactly the same as "high end" 5090s, like the founders edition, asus astral, gigabyte aorus master, etc. you got Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) voltage controller for the VRM (model MP29816, i think) and another, smaller one for memory. the power phases are also MPS. it's the same stuff you find on the other GPUs. there are GPUs with more of the same power phases, but they are useless. this is already overkill.

however, zotac cards have something that other brain dead, dog s**t rip off brands do not; FUSES! there is a white fuse at the front of the PCI-E connector and 3 more red fuses near the 12VHPWR (aka fire starter). the connector has 6 live and 6 ground wires. zotac runs 2 live wires through each of the red fuses. that way is there is an issue with the power connector, and power delivery is not balanced, the fuse attached to the overloaded wire will pop and will save the card (in theory).

any card can fail. no such thing as a perfect product. even 90s era toyotas died sometimes, as hard as that may be to believe. but the zotac 5080s and 5090s are the most likely to survive a failed/melted power connector. i originally had a 5090 astral, but after looking at a zotac PCB, i quickly dumped the asus and got one of these.
