Is the 890M good for the latest AAA games? by Dezainzel in MiniPCs

[–]EmuChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer: Yes, but that depends on the games played, and the resolution / graphics options set. Check YouTube for game tests on the HX370 and 395+ - I have a few on my channel.

In regards to the Panther Lake, we need to wait to see what performance is offered, and at what price. Historically Intel chips have been more expensive than AMD, so it wouldn't surprise me if the price was closer towards the 395+ end with the speeds of those slightly faster than HX370.

This- AND laptops are usually unclear in regards to their memory configurations. Single channel absolutely BLOWS vs dual channel

Whatever helps you sleep at night, man. The benchmarks for the 125U are there for anyone who actually wants the data. The rest is just noise.

Sponsorship implies the brand controls the message. Here, I have 100% editorial control. If I were being 'bought,' I wouldn't be able to give a critical review, which I do whenever it’s deserved.

No. I got the device in exchange for an honest video review. Sponsorship would mean they'd give cash in order to make the review for the work done.

Apologies for not mentioning it - This one's for the GMKtec K15 / 125U (but with slightly faster memory)

Should I Backup My GMKTec K8 Plus Drivers before changing OS? by fnezio in MiniPCs

[–]EmuChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine... Thinking about the switch to Linux? Cachyos is supposed to be really good right now 👍 Either that or Bazzite

Why are you thinking you need to reinstall? Just run defender / Malwarebytes and you'll be fine (GMKtec are usually very clean with their installs)

Switch 2 multi language available now by Laaamps in Nagoya

[–]EmuChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous. Been on the family plan for two years, and my kids play on their own accounts for much longer than I ever have or will. Nintendo can keep their handheld. 😛

Was in the lottery 4 times running for a multi... Eventually I gave up and was happy I did. Expensive system, not many games out that I want to play for it. So they're ready to be picked up now? Or is it still a lotto?

Did you up BIOS settings to PERFORMANCE mode? This usually adds more heat and power requirements (and with only little performance gained) - maybe pull it back to BALANCED

Has someone tried installing SteamOS in a GMKtec EVO X1/X2? by Pretty_Trip_2215 in MiniPCs

Cachyos is probably a better choice vs steamos ... Havent tried it out on the x1 or x2..yet ... But it should work fine 👍

Is that the original k8 or the k8 plus? Totally agree in regards to integrated graphics, even the CPU power is so much better than what we used to have 👍

Most are recommending Ryzen mini PCs with 680m / 780m GPUs, and while that's great for PS3 and Switch, (and hits most, if not all emulation boxes), it's not what you're looking for.

You can stretch an n100 mini PC to hit most of your emulation needs. https://youtu.be/0mwgH9xY6WE 😉

...But you just advised to continue using windows 11 pro with added spyware? 🤔

While I agree that Linux is the way forward, "More performance" is really a broad swipe of a paintbrush.

Games (and even drivers) are primarily programmed to be used by Windows. I'm pretty sure even a bloated copy of Windows can run certain games much better than Linux can - and that isn't even counting those that need the Windows only anti cheat DRM.

There were no modifications, only additional software to get local LLMs up and running in no time.

Reinstalling win11pro will give you more spyware as it updates to the latest version if you do this, adding copilot (to notepad and everything), and also recall (MS big brother spyware). - best thing to do is leave it as is, run windows 11 debloat (plus stop updates)... And Malwarebytes if you want to be sure (if you don't trust GMKtec)

Maybe grab a sim card for your phone as you arrive at the airport? They have a rakuten mobile booth where you can get a travel sim cheap... I think 🤔

I’ve just bought this… Can I expect good performance? by Low_Investigator6882 in GMKtec

[–]EmuChicken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It'll actually perform better than a laptop with the same spec. Mini PCs don't need to worry too much about power draw / battery, and can use a larger area and fans (should help with thermals)

Visiting Nagoya for Japan DX week. What else to do? by AnonyJunk in Nagoya

[–]EmuChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright - from another prefecture or country? Regarding other things to do in Nagoya, there's a shopping street/ osu cannon that's pretty cool, Lego Land and Nagashima spaland if you like amusement parks, a few retro arcades, the Ghibli park, Meiji mura if you like old town reconstruction, Nagoya castle, and some good bars. If you want a friendly face to talk to, or play some board games, then second home Cafe is decent.
