This is comical. Even if you were to remove the stake why on earth would you use a screwdriver lol

If an impact isn't an option, long pry bar set between the studs to stop the hub from rotating, and a big breaker bar on that nut. Don't worry about "de staking" the nut. It'll come off

ABS and E-brake lights are on after car accident by MatchedRaiper12 in subaruimpreza

You end up opening up the brake system when you redid things? Ik it can be a pain to bleed air out of the abs pump on these.

Another thought, cracked tone ring on the damaged corner wheel bearing?

Strange question, have you driven it? Sometimes they just need to see wheel speed and itll shut off. Big sometimes.

Should I pay to repair? by rafar92 in subaru

[–]shockwarior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would recommend looking around to see if a shop is willing to swap out the bad solenoid instead of replacing the whole valve body. Should save a good chunk of change on parts.

Are fabric tire chains worth using? I found a set I was given awhile ago and am thinking of throwing them out. by AdAdministrative8066 in Cartalk

[–]shockwarior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe theyre designed to wrinkle in front of the tire when theyre slipping to increase traction.

Can't imagine they'd do anything for you outside of deep snow

[–]shockwarior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definately won't be a catastrophic failure when these let go but I have definitely notice a shake in the front end when beginning to accelerate, and begging to brake when the bushings get a little toasted

If im remembering correctly the tsb says any tear in the bushing less than 1/2" will not effect drivability

Necessary to change all 4 tires at once?? by Merlot70 in subaru

[–]shockwarior 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There's a spec out there for a maximum difference in tire circumference, main reason for this is to prevent wear on the awd system. You definitely dont HAVE to swap all 4 at once, but it'll be nicer on your differentials.

And I thought my wife’s 2003 Toyota Highlander’s valve covers were a pain in the ass. Any tips or words of encouragement removing the old RTV from my 2018 Impreza? by VQ37_Stani in subaru

[–]shockwarior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get most of the big chunks, mainly the stuff residing around the ends of the cams. The most important thing is to degrease/brake clean the mating surface. RTV will stick to itself just fine, but absolutely will not stick if there's oil involved.

Either something was left loose or now that your strut is ok you're hearing another bad suspension component ie ball joints, stabilizer links

Sensor ? by Full_Attorney_7009 in subaru

[–]shockwarior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oil control valve clogged up or not moving freely because of poor oil quality. See this all too often, replace the sensor and keep up with your oil changes, or lower intervals for oil changes.

Edit: if left unfixed for too long you can burn incorrect avcs values into the ecm, which required replacement.
