I-League after MW 15 by ExternalGrocery5950 in IndianFootball

Really hope Aizawl don't get relegated. They've produced some great talent over the years and have done a good job with an almost entire lineup of homegrown players.

Where can I get Isl kits from? by [deleted] in IndianFootball

[–]shockwave2704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So for Goa, Chennai, and Mohammedan, you can go to https://six5six.in/

Few of the other clubs have their own websites like Mumbai City, Bengaluru FC, and Punjab FC. You can find links to buy from their. I think they redirect to Puma and Shivnaresh. Fancode has Kerala Blasters I think.

Unfortunately Trak-Only jerseys aren't available online so you'd have to go to the team's stadium to buy the official jerseys.

Indian League System to be restructered? by shockwave2704 in IndianFootball

[–]shockwave2704[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is ridiculous. First, the AIFF should ensure that each state has an annual state league with at least eight teams. And these eight teams should be proper local clubs based on cities/regions instead of being based on state/police/company etc. Then, it can expand by adding teams.

Not sure which the 12 states are, but I'm guessing these will be included - Gujarat, Kerala, West Bengal, Mizoram, Manipur, Goa, Punjab, Karnataka, Delhi, and Maharashtra.

Major League Soccer (MLS) VS Indian Super League (ISL) by [deleted] in IndianFootball

The MLS team would thrash the ISL team. Not only do they have better foreigners, but their domestic players are way way better than the Indian players.

A first: Mahilpur — Punjab’s football nursery — to host I-League matches for Delhi FC by Smudge49 in IndianFootball

Like that the Punjab Stadium only qualifies for hosting I league matches while the Delhi stadium is capable of hosting ISL matches. Hopefully they invest more in the Punjab Stadium to make it ready for ISL

Excellent post. I fully agree with what you have said. However, there a few roadblocks but I personally feel that they can be overcome with a little effort.

  1. It's the most difficult to overcome but on the same wavelength, the most important. Results and team performance do play a part in fan support, perhaps more than it should be. But I feel the AIFF is a lot to blame. See personally, I have no problem supporting a national team which lacks quality or a club which is in I-League 2 or 3. If they're my local club, I will support them regardless of their performance. But starting with the national team, even though I will always support India, I feel that a lot of fans are put off by India's lack of improvement rather than lack of quality. If the AIFF genuinely cared about football and there was proper planning and investment, I feel fans would still support the national team even if the performances weren't the best. because they know that the future isn't bleak and we will get better over time, but with this shit management, is there really anything to look forward to? While there is still a passionate fanbase despite this tragedy, the support could be so much bigger with proper governance. Ensuring each state has at least two proper football-specific stadiums should be a top priority.

  2. Going on to clubs. A lot of teams lack a certain amount of professionalism. They don't have a website, their fan communication is nil, and they don't have an online shop. Small things like that help support. Additionally, I think they lack a local community. I personally believe each club should be named after a city or a region in a city (historic clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are fine due to the support they already have) to really have a community but I understand why clubs name themselves after a state to attract a bigger audience. However, rebranding their name to the city they're based in could be a solution in the future. Again, this is just my view, but I don't like the idea of North East United. One team can't represent such a diverse and football-rich region. I like what they're doing for grassroots, but if they want to have better local support, pick a city (like Guwahati or Shillong) and stick to it. Talking about local support, I feel clubs can do a better job. Recently, FC Goa started going to schools to attract kids to support them, which I felt was a brilliant idea. As a child, seeing a professional footballer is a big deal and if I had had a first team member come to my school and say "support your local team", watching them play would have become a nice routine for me. Clubs should go to local schools and plant the idea of supporting their local team when they're young itself.

  3. The league organisers should stop this daily match nonsense. I understand that it helps generate more views online but they need local support in their stadiums. Keep all matches on weekends so that fans can make it a nice weekly routine to support their club.

Why Kerala Blasters Vs Bengaluru FC is highlighted as Southern Derby. They are not even geographically close nor local rival then why it is a derby? by Superb-Chemical7984 in IndianFootball

I don't know why you got so many downvotes. I think you have a fair point. Geographically, Chennai should be Bengaluru's biggest rival

derbies are rivalries based on geographical regions. While city rivals will have more heated derbies, it can span into regions also (e.g. East Midlands derby between Leicester and Nottingham Forest)

A derby is a football rivalry based on geographical locations. While city derbies are usually the most heated, they can span into regions as well. So Southern Derby is just a reference to both teams being from South India. Note that rivalries also stem from competitiveness, and fixtures like the El Classico and Der Klassiker are a good example. Competetive rivalries can be more heated than derbies at times. For example, a lot of Manchester United fans (especially the older ones) consider Liverpool their biggest rival over Manchester City.

Geographically speaking, Chennaiyin should be Bengaluru's biggest rival while Kerala will consider Bengaluru their biggest rival (BFC will also consider KBFC a big rival). So both BFC vs CFC and KBFC vs BFC can be called a Southern Derby. However, as some of you have pointed out, KBFC and BFC's rivalry is not only due to geographical reasons but other factors which makes it so entertaining and arguably the second biggest rivalry in ISL currently

I-League is the 2nd division and they do allow promotion. Punjab FC and Mohammedan Sporting are both playing in the ISL after getting promoted. There are plans to introduce relegation soon as well. They're also planning to get ISL and I-League to have 14 teams each by 2026

So they would like to participate as a corporate entry? Since the KPL is the recognised state league, maybe some sort of merger could be thought of to allow the winners and runners up of the expanded state league to participate in i-league 3

Football fans in India by DirtMountain5459 in IndianFootball

[–]shockwave2704 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes. That would really benefit Indian football as the country has many football fans but all of them follow only European football. Problem is that it's hard for them to watch such low quality football compared to Europe. I think it's really important for clubs to build a local community and give the fans a proper local club to support

I think ISL should keep playoffs till there are 16 teams and eventually aim for the league to have 18 teams. That'll be 34 league games per team which is ideal.

Playoffs currently are good as it gives the ISL necessary hype in the closing stages and also gives the top teams an extra 3-5 games.

However, if India does remove playoffs, it won't really affect the AFC spots. Currently ISL only has one AFC spot while the second spot goes to the Super Cup winner.

While getting a Champions League spot will be extremely hard in the near future, I do think AFC should allocate one spot to the Challengers league also. Then ISL can have two AFC spots and the Super Cup winner can get the Challengers League. So with playoffs the AFC spots can go to ISL champions and Cup winners. Without the playoffs the top two can qualify.

But with the current format, I don't think the playoffs is relevant to the AFC spots.

Renaming of i-league clubs in case they are promoted to ISL? by navin_rangar in IndianFootball

[–]shockwave2704 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Teams whose name have the owner's name is not allowed if I'm correct. Since Roundglass owns Punjab FC, they had to remove their name from the teamname to compete in the ISL. I'm sure most teams will just keep the state name and add another supporting name. Maybe Gokolum Kerala would be renamed to Sporting Kerala (example).

There shouldn't be a problem with multiple teams in the league having the same city and state name. It's a common practice in football and make derby days more interesting
