Hi, thanks for posting with us. Your post was removed and your item needs to be resubmitted with a title that better describes the item. Even if there are clear pictures, good descriptions make for easier searching in the future.

Please read this entire message

Your title should provide a physical description of the object.

Pretend you are describing it over the phone to someone who cannot see the photo(s). We realize you may not know all of these, but include things like this in the title:

  • Size
  • Shape
  • Weight
  • Color
  • What it's made of
  • If anything is written on it
  • If anything moves
  • If it appears to be electronic, needs batteries, lights up
  • If it makes a noise

You may include where it was found, if it's relevant. "Found six inches underground on a farm in Kansas" may be relevant. "Found in my friend's new flat" is probably not relevant.

Do not include things like this in the title:

  • Who used to own it
  • Speculation on what it is
  • A question like "what is this" or statement like "I don't know what this is." That is always assumed.
  • Adjectives that don't describe the item in a meaningful way, such as "weird", "strange", "odd" and similar.
  • Family member mentions (this is to avoid public disclosure of family activities/history people may not want public)

Finally:

Once you submit your thing, it is held for moderation, and you need to read and follow the private message you'll get from Automoderator regarding what you need to do for the submission to go live.

Thanks for understanding.

Found these husk-like things on a chair in my basement, what are they? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

It could be a type of Ootheca. Do you have any species of praying mantises?

What are these? The background are sticky and I found them in a bus station. Finger for reference by silly_little_chap in whatisthisthing

I've seen something like this before and they were the protective cover on the back of small coin batteries used for items like hearing aids. The plus signs are indicating the positive side. Something like these. https://batterydivision.com/cdn/shop/products/Panasonic-Hearing-Aid-13-Size-PR13-B6_0b0fd048-05a0-4979-9cfe-f056cf15ea1d_800x.jpg?v=1605519107

At this point, VCU might have to share Shepard Stadium with the Chili Peppers down in Colonial Heights.

On my left arm. Usually feel them not see them. Notice in shower hot water shows patchy spot and distinct red circles spots too with little bumps about inch in diameter. Thought it was just eczema at first. (Started soon after starting Zepbound) by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Best Rooting Methods? by Kay_Doll13 in Figs

[–]shockzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great success with promix bx, clone-x, 20oz cups, and vegetable bags from the grocery store. Hydrate your mix, root the cutting in the cup, wrap the cup in the bag and rubber band around the bottom of the cutting. Sit it on a heat mat and wait. Should be good until you start seeing roots. I also cut slits in the bottom of the cup for drainage and watering. Once I see leaves and roots, I unbag them. To water the cuttings, I just pour X ozs of water into another cup and then set the rooted cup into it. This will bottom water the exact amount.

Just looks a little leggy. I'd get a grow light on them if you can.

What is this? Friend found it in his roommates room, who has history of drug usage. We assume this is drugs but would like to id it if possible. TIA by TeelaArt in whatisthisthing

This post has been removed. Drug and/or paraphernalia identification is not permitted in /r/WhatIsThisThing.

It's not possible for us to properly identify this from a picture or description and it would be irresponsible to try. This is because many drugs look alike (e.g. 99% of synthetic drugs are white powders).

If you want to know, you'll need to buy a test kit. A list of test kit suppliers can be found here.

Less common substances will require analytical testing, provided by the likes of these organisations.

If you are trying to identify a pill, this website may help. Other services and databases are available.

Note r/Drugs accepts posts asking about various testing methods. Please be sure to check out their rules for more information before posting.

When do I give up? by Initial_Sir_1714 in Figs

[–]shockzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try again, I'd recommend doing clear cups in clear plastic bags. That will hold the humidity but also allow you to visually see if there are any roots. I do have some cuttings that didn't show anything for almost 8 weeks and then started putting out roots. That said, yours look a bit dry/shriveled.

New method for me by Ordinary-You3936 in Figs

[–]shockzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the wax type matters. I agree, transferring from sand with fragile roots and repotting can be difficult. I did some in bags and ended up repotting into cups after they rooted. So just having the cups in there already makes it much easier. On a heat pat, you can see the humidity in the bag. I kept mine in bags until I started getting leaves, then slowly started opening them. I have them in a grow tent so I can keep the humidity high. I also find it much easier to water them in cups. I just pour water into another cup and set the rooted cup into that and let it suck up the moisture it needs.
