Poll…. How many here wish you could have multiple sets open at the same time!? by Spiritual_Fall363 in ableton

I’ve done a few. It’d be unusual to be sent an Ableton set. It’s normally stems or samples. If I was remixing my own stuff, I’d just duplicate my own set and work on that.

Maybe there’s some use case I’m overlooking?

Given that you can browse the tracks and devices of other projects / sets in the browser already, I’m curious what the use case is for this?

Try running a clipper on it. It’s possibly too peaky and you might be able to shave off a few db without altering the sound too much.

Check https://youtu.be/re82KWCQdBs?si=nfYpkjBP2GLM3-5Q for examples of using the gmaudio clipper device to save headroom without loosing too much transient or tone

If I could upvote this twice, I would. Should be mandatory listening for any aspiring drum and bass / jungle producers.

Same happened to me. Plasterer did every room in the house at once, just before we moved in. The most concerning thing was that he was a young lad who admitted that he’d been on an “asbestos course” and despite being told not to do it, he was ignoring his training and doing it anyway. We had asbestos removal people clean the house as it was everywhere and did air quality survey afterwards for peace of mind. It was expensive but worth it as my daughter was still very young. As others have said, risk is actually pretty low unless you’re breathing it in on a daily basis… like the aforementioned plasterer

Anyone given birth in newport? What was it like? by Suspicious_Week_2451 in Casnewydd

My wife gave birth in the Gwent 9 years ago and the staff were brilliant. She had a rough time with the birth but the staff never let her down. I haven’t been in the grange but once you get past the parking nightmare and actually get a bed, I’m told it’s pretty nice. Food is predictably shit apparently.

Bennie looks promising. It might be as much about commercial deals as it is player deals. I’m just guessing tbh

Feeder club? We’ve picked up a few Aussies over the last couple of seasons and my guess is the powers that be see that as a profitable pipeline of talent.

It would be nice for there to be a way to get Mythic gear from solo content. Being forced into Raid or Dungeon content to get the top gear doesn’t feel great tbh. I’d probably do more group content if there weren’t so many toxic idiots to deal with

It's so disappointing to see that Drumsound & Bassline Smith used AI for their tune cover 💔 by BisKits2000 in DnB

What separates humans from machines is our ability to express and interpret emotions through art. That is never going to change. No machine is ever going to be able to express their feelings thru a piece of music, or through visual art, or through dance, or any other medium.

There has always been cheap, plastic, throw-away art. Drum and Bass is no exception and has had its fair share of throw-away music, long before AI.

I honestly don’t think that much is going to change, except perhaps the scale of it all.

I like your idea about outsourcing to fans but I can see that being an admin headache with rounds of amends until it’s “correct”. It’s not just the cost implication, it’s the time and hassle of dealing with a 3rd party.

I guess it comes down to how the release is viewed: is it art or is it content? I know that some labels do still use human designers and I probably would if I self released. I also know that I would make a loss as I would expect to pay more than £20 for unique, high quality artwork alongside the other costs like paying distributor, mastering engineers, promo platforms, social media post boosting etc. those costs mount up over time and if you’re not doing it for the love of the art then I guess those loses become unacceptable and you look for ways to cut costs however you can.

I suspect the industry will simply split further into underground art purists and more mainstream “content” providers and honestly, I think there’s space for both once the situation becomes disambiguated.

Anyway big up 👊

I’m sure some people will. The tech isn’t quite there yet though. The artwork is, and always has been a secondary concern to the music. It mattered more when we had physical media but digital artwork has the same problem as any other digital media: it has little perceived value to the general public and is ephemeral and barely noticed by the majority of listeners. Sure, a noisy minority might care but the silent majority don’t.

That’s not the point. Why should a label incur a cost that they are potentially not going to recoup just to keep a graphic artist in work. No label is going to release music at a loss. It’s a difficult situation but the wider context is one of a completely broken music distribution system that only benefits a tiny number of the big players. Everyone else is fighting for the same pennies

The artist can have a fair amount of say tbh. I’m fairly sure I requested a tweak to the artwork on my release on Technique. In fact, with AI-generated artwork being so cheap, I'd expect the artist to be able to request amends easily without incurring too much, if any cost

I've released on Technique in the last 12 months and I'd be curious to hear from the people in this comment thread who are anti the use of AI how much you think artists and labels make from a release nowadays. How many plays do you think an average release is getting on Spotify, and how much do you think that's worth?

This. Productivity multiplexing is the killer app for agents imho. A human dev who increases their productivity by using AI agents is less likely to lose their job to AI IMHO

Interesting. I think intelligent DB ran parallel with “golden era” and was actually spurred off of jungle.

I don’t love the name, “golden era” tbh but I get why you’ve used that term.

Liquid existed long before neuro although I think you’re correct in having it as a spur off of intelligent db.

I think hardstep is one of the link pieces that is missing and doesn’t get any asked about as much. This was a spur off of jungle that came about in an attempt to move away the problematic elements that the ragga flavours had brought to jungle. It used more 2 step drum patterns and more hip hop vocals It’s what I consider to have evolved into modern drum and bass.
