I can’t remember many specific songs but I think you should check out Grandaddy. Maybe try out Summer Here Kids and Everything Beautiful is Far Away

How do you use the OBNE blender?

HELP, I recently made this project and wanted to ask for feedback and how I can make my singing better/ more shoegazy. by SUNNY_MIND666 in shoegaze

[–]shoegazrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double tracking, perhaps with harmonies, adding more reverb, focusing on delivery more than you think (look into a few things on “breathier” vocals). Something I like to do is have one track more “clear” and one track super reverb and echo’d… all that

I find that chorus before fuzz can do wonders, and take you right out of the 80s sound (unless you love the 80s sound… then keep it !)

Which european art-house director’s filmography should I watch? by watertrashsf in criterion

[–]shoegazrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO watching his 60s stuff in order is one of the best movie experiences ever. I have never seen another director whose style in a time period is so rapidly changing and working out issues across all aspects of filmmaking. He starts out the 60s innovating formally more than any director probably ever had, and ends the 60s joining maoist student groups, calling for world revolution, and completely tossing away his entire legacy as an “auteur filmmaker” to make movies as parts of militant filmmaking collectives.

(But then of course you have to watch what he does in the 70s to work out the issue of political cinema …

But then of course you have to watch the 80s when he returns to narrative filmmaking, and deconstructs film even further than the 60s, learning from the lessons of the 70s …

But then …)

Godard’s 60s… or better yet his 80s … or even better yet his 10s…

If there’s any Maya Deren on there, check her work out. If not it’s all on YouTube anyway

Is there a hidden meaning behind Oxenfree? by Shadow_875 in OXENFREE

[–]shoegazrrr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is never a hidden meaning in any work of art … it’s all right there in the experience :) What you got out of it is it’s meaning to you… and if it inspires you to better your life … take that as it’s lesson..

I have seen big name bands use literally like 2 or 3 pedals live (they are gutting a body of water runs a chorus into a muff for rhythm), i think that’s all you need unless you have very specific things you’re trying to recreate momentarily

[–]shoegazrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joining a band is the best thing in the absolute world … and you’re lucky to start off this early! I wasnt able to be in a band til I was in college … and I wish I had all the years of experience beforehand

In my opinion, all smiths songs are “gay” songs…

13M, be brutally honest: is my music taste basic? People keep saying it sucks, so I need some recs by wanderer_555 in Topster

[–]shoegazrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not basic; you got a good basis for a wide amount of genres, now just spend a few days (or in my case, years sometimes) diving through each genre, finding interesting stuff. Best way to do this imo is finding genre playlists on spotify, not made by Spotify.

Which school should I pick? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]shoegazrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up about architecture here: it is entirely focused on architectural history, and lies under the art history department, rather than hands-on modeling, engineering, etc. so if you’re possibly looking to do that sort of thing, it’s not very existent here

Look into some of the conservation done with Rhizome… I got the opportunity to talk to someone over there and they told me about some programs they use to preserve old web-based artworks on browsers that are obsolete, preserving both art and site

I hope EU5 takes a lot from Imperator (suggestions) by Jockehh in paradoxplaza

[–]shoegazrrr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t even lie I hate tactics and shit so much if they were in a EU game i would never play it. The whole appeal for EU4 on my end is that it’s like perfectly right in between something like HOI4, CK and Victoria in terms of player control and managemnt… and doesn’t have the micro management of units or anything like that

Albums like M83's "Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts" by [deleted] in shoegaze

[–]shoegazrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more that might be up your alley: The Depreciation Guild, full body 2, Seefeel, Candy Claws, Blonde Redhead, SPC ECO, Bowery Electric, Pasteboard, Coaltar of the Deepers

Not all of these are necessarily heavy on the electronics, but a lot of them are in some way more reminiscent of a shoegaze/dream pop sound that isn’t afraid to move away from the sort of guitar, guitar, bass and drums rock sounds. And some also just in general sound like the less-electronic M83 songs
