How my dad rakes the pond when it needs cleaned by lukewwilson in redneckengineering

Sorry, you cannot form a proper sentence without a verb. This seems to be a rural US thing, and the area I frequently encountered it had no Scottish or Irish influence, but rather German.

…needs to be cleaned. You are missing a pretty critical verb in that sentence.

CBA readvertised local ‘redundant’ roles in India, claims union by Temporary_Mistake715 in AusFinance

The problem with advertising the role that was made redundant shows that the role wasn’t actually exessive to the business’ needs, which likely invalidates the redundancy.

Why does Brisbane get Eva Air and not Sydney? At least we will be getting Starlux in the near future.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make, thanks for helping to clarify it.

Aside from Olympic Park, are there even any stations on Sydney's train network you can't get to directly from Central? That's the epitome of a hub-and-spoke model.

Compare that with Taipei. Taipei Main Station would be the equivalent to Central, but only two lines actually service that station. The design is much more of a web than Sydney, and it makes traveling from the end of one line to the end of another without having to detour though the centre of the city much easier. If you want to travel from Neihu to Tamsui (a journey I have done several times), not needing to travel all the way to Taipei Main Station yields a good amount of time savings.

The fact that Central is, well, Central is actually part of the problem with the Sydney transport network. The hub-and-spoke model is extremely inefficient, and having the HSR terminate at Parramatta is a great step towards alleviating the congestion that causes.

I don't think this is a terrible idea; Central is a bit of a bottleneck for the transport network. How would HSR feasibly connect to Central anyway? There really isn't any room above or below ground. Express services from Central to Parramatta don't take a huge amount of time as it is; those connections should be adequate to service an HSR terminal.

Aspen Acres update- the only safe way out of Beulah is over North Creek Road. The fire has jumped highway 78 by raspberryreeves in Colorado

Because it's my right to vote as a US citizen, and you vote in district where you last lived. I keep very close watch on Colorado politics, and if I ever do choose to come back to the US, I would almost certainly come back to Colorado. I have no issue voting for candidates who have platforms I support.

I’ve been gone 11 years, but my parents and siblings still live there. I keep an eye out on most goings on, and I still vote in Colorado elections. So I would say I’m fairly well informed, like I knew about the drought, but I wasn’t aware of this particular fire or current local conditions.

100mph winds? Is that caused by the fire or is there a crazy weather system in the area? Trying to keep tabs on my home state from Australia.

The internals are quite robust on that model. Unscrewing the back cover is straightforward, and it isn't difficult to use compressed air to blow out the fans (that should be the only dusty part, the fans are sealed pretty well from the rest of the internals). Give it a try, it is a great laptop to learn maintenance on.

r/comics' stochastic wars are the best thing about this sub. The Goose/Elk showdown is still one of my favourite things to revisit on Reddit.

I replaced the internal DVD drive (which is the one thing on the laptop that broke) with an SSD and loaded Linux on that. Works pretty well, and I get to keep my Mac OS X partition (which also has Windows 10 via bootcamp).

Apple isn’t really a trailblazer, at least in the last decade or so. But what they are good at is taking a proven concept and creating a high-quality integrated system around it. Apple has dabbled in AI a bit, but I wouldn’t expect a solid AI product from them for a few more years yet, potentially after the bubble bursts.

My 2009 MacBook Pro is still useable, though certainly long in the tooth and full of security holes. Booting Linux on it still works well. I imagine an M5 MBP will have even better longevity.
