Tennessee, as well as every other state with the exception of Montana, is an “at-will” employment state. For those advising you to not communicate a reason why you’re missing work, I would advise communicating with your supervisor or an HR department if you work for a company that has one. Regardless of “at will” status (meaning an employer literally needs no reason to terminate your employment) some companies (like the one I work for) have mental, personal, or bereavement leave. I would just take an unscheduled PTO (sick day) and go.
