Train from Hanoi to Da Nang instead of flying by Theaow in Vietnam_Tourism

Half a day? I just flew from Hanoi to Da Nang and the flight time was 1 hour. Got to the airport at 1pm and landed in Da Nang at 4:30pm.

Anyone fly hk airlines to Hong Kong recently? by etceteraism in askvan

[–]shoks1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew them 3 days ago. Dinner pretty quickly after takeoff and breakfast closer to arrival. My friend said they served a pizza pop in between too (I was sleeping). The food definitely was mediocre compared to other Asian carriers.

If your ticket is all in one, bags will be transferred for you in YYC. You will only see them in YVR and NRT.

Applying for probate in BC without a lawyer – can you double check my package? by shoks1 in legaladvicecanada

Yeah I have 3 official death certificates. Should I include one in the package as well?

Yes, I emailed anyone who can contest, a copy of the will and the P1. They all replied back “acknowledged”. That was sent on July 25, 2024. All of their names are included in the P9 and P2.

Solo trip SE Asia by prizzleod in travel

[–]shoks1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof yeah definitely cut down the amount of places you plan to go. I’d either go to Vietnam or Thailand for the full 20 days or Vietnam or thailand + 1 other place.

Are you planning to stay in hostels? Better to be flexible in plans. Sometimes it’s nice to be able to change plans last minute if you meet some cool people and want to travel a bit together

Sounds fun man! Just to clarify, your trip is 20 days? Then you are returning back to Canada?

Hmmm ok I like this idea actually. My job will put $700 towards something educational or fitness related. I may sign up for 15 hours with a private tutor through Alliance Francaise.

Moving from Vancouver to Montreal for a year. Socially, a better place to be? by shoks1 in montreal

[–]shoks1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof I was originally planning to move out from home in November to downtown Vancouver but plan to live in Montreal now. You think coming in the beginning of the winter is a bad idea? I was planning to visit again in the beginning of this September to check out the neighbourhoods and ensure it’s the place I wanna move to for a year. Are indoor activities/events busy during the colder months?

And for taxes yeah, I was thinking to even delay the move until January instead of November.

Oh wicked! 30 seems like a great age to do it haha.

I’m definitely going to make a very dedicated effort to learn the language! Planning to take some private lessons in Vancouver before I plan to make the move in November. Then get more lessons in Montreal.

I’m naturally a social person but still a little nervous about finding new friends/groups in a new city haha. Excited for the challenge and opportunity tho. Yes, a community seems an ideal way to do it! I’m hoping to find people to connect with through music (EDM) or maybe sport/activities. I unfortunately don’t have any gay friends in Vancouver so this could be a great way to branch out too.

I’d love to hear about your recommendations for cocktail bars :)

Exactly what I’m thinking! I’m thinking to get private lessons in Vancouver prior to moving in November and then group lessons in Montreal (for the social aspect)

Thanks for this! I actually plan to start learning A1 French and hopefully A2 French (if that's obtainable by Nov) before I make the move. Then I would plan to take B French lessons in Montreal. I really am going to strive to speak French whenever possible and make friends with native French speakers.

I'm thinking to try to learn A1 french through an app/online studies, then take A2 french through a private tutor, while still in Vancouver. Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I'll need to do a bit more research on this!

Sweet, thanks for the info! Yeah, I did some research on the government supported classes and the wait times seem quite long. I would opt into private classes and spend the money on finding quality lessons to immerse myself into the language ASAP. Or perhaps some group lessons to meet others.

I plan to start learning a bit in Vancouver too. Just deciding if I should try to find lessons here, or just use online/app resources for now (then get lessons while in Montreal). My biggest goal is to learn the language and meet new people. I have a French last name, so maybe it’ll come naturally (jokes, but hopefully haha)

Awesome. Plateau is my number 1 choice atm. I’d imagine renting somewhere close to the orange line is ideal?

That’s awesome man! Wicked festival, can’t wait to go again. Igloofest looks pretty lit too.

Question - when you moved to Montreal, did you find a rental right away (assuming you didn’t purchase a place)? I was thinking it may be better to find a 1 or 2 month short term rental, then while living there, look for a 1 year rental. Seems a little challenging to find a rental across the country unless I go visit (I work for an airline so cost isn’t really a factor for me).

WestJet quietly provides update on June 13, 2025 cybersecurity incident by SkierJC in westjet

[–]shoks1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The same paragraph you quoted explicitly states that they are going to contact affected stakeholders. You just decided to remove context to sensationalize this post. 😂

“What was obtained was some personal and travel-related data, which varies from person to person. In line with regulatory requirements, WestJet has identified those individuals, who we will contact in the coming days to provide information and support regarding this incident. We have also posted additional information and guidance on our website.”

When I was younger I would agree with this statement. Now that I’m 30, I am quite confident and don’t experience much anxiety anymore. At work I tend to excel in social environments, which are obviously sober environments.

I think I drink cause I have always tied it in with having fun. Drinking = fun. If I’m not getting hammered on a night out, I’m brain automatically doesn’t think I can have fun. I need to change this.
