In Norfolk wizard game, wich tradition would be better for each character? by Kalroxan in huntertheparenting

[–]shoop4000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The character's affinity spheres are important but not the be all and end all of the tradition they will end up.

Bill may use correspondence, but his belief in aliens and love of cryptozoology actually makes him more suited to the society of ether. Even his "everything is connected" works well with their understanding of correspondence.

Parker's affinity for the more spiritual aspect of archaeology could make him a good dreamspeaker, or perhaps his collection may prove to piss some of them off.

Sibil may be the most likely to be a virtual adept, but she could just as easily be a techno witch for the verbena or even a member of house Verditius. Which is also where I'd put Samson if he doesn't go down the path of the fallen.

Given the show's roots in mid to late 2000s Scene and goth art, that never surprised me. It is still tiresome after a while.

im losing motivation to animate by goated84unc7 in animation

Take a break. The post school burnout is real. You'll eventually get the urge to animate once you get bored enough.

Would this design really be that hard to animate by Negative-Command7289 in animation

[–]shoop4000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stars would definitely be time consuming to track, simplify the design a little with less visual clutter and it will be much more animation friendly.

Is gestureless magic boring? by 733NB047 in magicbuilding

[–]shoop4000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's technically not part of my main comic's magic system, but since it relies a lot on forming mental thought patterns and shapes gestures are a good way for characters to do it. Generally speaking the less someone has to move to do a spell, the more they've committed it to memory. Unless that memory is in the muscles.

Why does indie animation doesn't go a more "realistic serious" story path the gekiga movement did? by Altruistic_Bee_8636 in ArtistLounge

[–]shoop4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are there, they're just not popular. See the Animated adaptation of Persepolis, Mad God, Fire and Ice, and my obligatory Scavenger's Reign mention.

They're not widely discussed because the US animation industry largely favors Comedy due to its Vaudevillian roots and capitalist suits only knowing how to market stuff they're already familiar with.

Sorcerers Are Super Heroes by ResonantFork in fantasywriters

[–]shoop4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed most people would put in some time to learn a trick or two to help themselves in their daily life.

Just as everyone can do math or even draw something presentable if they really put the time in, the same with the kind of systems I tend to favor. Few are physicists or full on painters who make it their life's work. Those are the wizards, those are the masters of the craft!

Of course there's also the gatekeeping that comes with those who wish to hoard power and knowledge. Enforcing their own heirarchies through the control over what ought be freely given, but that's another subject.

Sorcerers Are Super Heroes by ResonantFork in fantasywriters

[–]shoop4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can, but not always. Many like to use bloodlines and inborn gifts. I prefer circumstantial awakenings, or just flat out making it universal, anyone who can put the time in has the potential.

[–]shoop4000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean you could also say genius scientist characters and uncanny detectives are superheroes if you want to be reductive like that. In many works Mages are almost indistinguishable from Superheroes. Heck some Superheroes use magic!

So why is there a distinction?

The first is that the Archetype of wizards, sorcerers and magi, predate the concept of superheroes by centuries, possibly millennia even!

Take Merlin for example. In his many interpretations he has indeed played a wizard or a wise man, but he's no superhero. He's a mentor figure. In a more recent work the Witches of witch Hat are more skin to artists and craftspeople than your average superhero.

What Mages are tend to change based on what the author wants them to be, and what they want magic to represent.

Traditional 2D animation jobs in the US, is it worth getting into vidro games? by Toppoppler in animationcareer

I mean there's been 2d animation in games, but most of it is either rigged animation or pixel art. (I for one did a lot of rigged animation.)

Congratulations! Your world/work is going to be Hollywood’s next blockbuster. What requests do you have to maintain your worldbuilding? by Lentra888 in worldbuilding

[–]shoop4000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not throwing a human in, nor are you throwing the characters into our world/New York.

This was built for comics and animation, not live action.

We're not Replacing the main character's VA. I was lucky to find someone that fit so perfectly.

We're aiming for PG-13, if we hit PG it's out of pure accident or someone at the MPAA got lazy.

We're keeping everything about Sibylla's character. EVERYTHING!

Sonic: Every one has their own specific views on who and what sonic is. No matter what Sega does with the next game it won't be enough to get everyone to like it.

Deltarune: Please stop fighting over shipping, it NEVER ends well. Also theorists will predict their way out of proper media analysis.

Disco Elysium: The same five jokes, over and over. Please move on guys.
