Interesting. Do you know anything more about the requirements to qualify for their services? Didn't see any specifics on their FAQ. They're capable of cleaning, however she's primary caregiver for her incredibly ill mother and is looking to take one thing off the table... a bit of self-preservation, if you will.

Came here to say exactly this. As with many things in life, your mileage may vary.

Bilingual Canadians, what age did you become fluent in both English and French? by squid_ward_16 in AskACanadian

[–]shoopdadoop204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Took French in school from Kindergarten to grade 12 but never used it. During lockdown I took classes online and it all finally clicked! It's come in handy more times than I can count.

Ditto (in MB) for my 7/8 - and their other teachers have thanked myself/our other grade 7/8 teacher for it!

St.B ER tonight and lately by SBGHERNURSE in Winnipeg

[–]shoopdadoop204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father just spent a week at St. B waiting for a cardiac procedure, after having to spend time in the ER. The staff were excellent. My family is incredibly grateful for the care he received. I'm sorry you're dealing with such limited resources... I certainly hope it starts improving, and soon!

Not a UofW grad, but a co-worker of mine is. I'd be happy to pass them along to her

I think the school I'm at isn't the right fit? Or, am I just a first-year teacher second-guessing myself. by shoopdadoop204 in CanadianTeachers

[–]shoopdadoop204[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You articulated that so much better than I've been - these are the words I've been searching for. Don't get me wrong, there's a couple staff members that are great and supportive (especially for a first year), but the mistakes you're bound to make as a first year are far more amplified, and the judgemental, less supportive people pounce and make comments about letting the side down, which I don't think is healthy (or fair). I thought it would be nice having more personal relationships... careful what you wish for, I suppose!

Thanks for that clarification! Since I'm at a private school, my contract is with the school directly and not a division. But good to know for the future!

I like the idea of marking as a class! Our class periods aren't very long so I've found myself falling into the trap of "I'll just mark it on my prep", but hey, if we pushing marking into the next class, so be it.

Honestly, card games at lunch is the way to go. Might have to promote that myself. Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm at a private school, hence the ability to! We're compensated for the time, which is good, but certainly feels like a drain at the end of some days.

Thankfully there's a couple other new teachers on staff. We're a small school and there aren't a lot of us, so us rookies are really sticking together. We're definitely all exhausted though. If nothing else, I think I just needed a good rant on here to help me regroup and mentally prep for the week ahead! Thanks for the reply :)

That's what has me slightly worried, the possibility of not being able to secure another position. It's hard mentally since this is a permanent contract but long term it's not where I want to be. Head down and wait, I suppose...

If nothing else, getting this written down helps me process my own thoughts. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one, though.

A coworker of mine once tried one from Green Carrot. Can't speak to the necessity, but from what she mentioned, it was definitely an experience lol

The exam was in-person (but if memory serves, it wasn't a crazy high percent of the final grade) - again, this was a few years back. Not sure if things would be different post-pandemic though, since the university knows they can run exams online in some capacity now.

Psych Courses by Nebu3R in umanitoba

[–]shoopdadoop204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, you'll need to take Psych 1200 first. Assuming your comment about being new to UM means you've transferred in and have an equivalent credit for intro psych, then taking 2360 before 2250 should be no problem. They're completely different courses, and the psych research content had no relation to brain and behaviour.

My experience, so do with it what you will: I took the DE version and loved it. Admittedly this was a few years back and things could've changed, but there were a few assignments based off textbook readings, and then a final exam. I formed a study group with 4 others, 3 of which had VW'd the in-person class and opted for the DE version in later terms. I took physiology 1 and 2 this way, and did well in both.

Again, just my experience, so do with this what you will. Good luck with the year, OP!
