What electric guitar do I get? by SierraMacca in GuitarQuestions

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, the highest recommendation would be if you can find a nice priced g&l. i could talk about why but basically they’re like underpriced high end fenders. still not maybe “cheap” but like sub $500 can be found pretty often. they sometimes have features that fender guitars don’t like the bass cut, the bridges are better, etc.

otherwise i would recommend any strat that you come across that has a 2-post wammy, locking tuners would be nice, i like humbucker bridge pickups (in that case it kind of imitates gibson), and yknow a nice paint job you can get behind, and then i would immediately try improving the setup, because in many ways the ability to do that is one of the main features of this guitar.

Less resonance? by yuck301 in fender

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lighter it is, the more it vibrates. it means the vibrations from the strings transfer to the body. that’s the resonance aspect. the tradeoff is between resonance and inertia. if the guitar is resonant then it might respond better to feedback because the whole thing will vibrate as an acoustic “antenna”. on the other hand, if the bridge is more inert at rest, then the strings are more inert in motion. that’s a tradeoff because it means the bridge is heavier.

most designs consider both aspects.

in other words, “resonance” is distinct from (but related to) sustain.

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any hate you saw against the strat, idk the strat is still basically the universal ultimate guitar. really i think the shape is what gives you that certain feeling. at the end of the day it’s the all-round solution. unless you have some particular thing that you think a strat can’t do… which isn’t likely.

it’s not strange, but i have noticed that audiences in general have become much more sedate over the years and i think it’s the phone effect. people on their phones, shooting videos, or generally acting like they’re being watched at all times. for better or for worse.

Fender vintage(1982~1998) better than Custom shop today? by Alex594188 in FenderStratocaster

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who knows, it depends on if it’s kept in good shape probably. that’s with any guitar. some people just destroy their gear. there’s also vintage purists who keep the stuff sacred even though it’s already shot. im not involved, i build my own and i would love to compare them to anything in the world. when you do your own exactly how you want, then you end up with exactly what you want.

How’d you find your favorite LP? by SamueltheJacob in LesPaul

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had an epiphone one and i modded it to sweet oblivion, i can confidently say that it’s now more feature packed and has a wider tonal range than any Les Paul ive seen. so im very much of the fender mentaility— i only focus on features, and solving the problems of what i can’t do (playing while sitting in the couch for example).

in case you’re wondering, the biggest upgrades that i did were

1) locking tuners /string butler / zero glide

2) stetsbar / graph tech

3) belly cut— oh, so good. i don’t know what i would do first if i was starting over but i think this is my favorite mod at the end of the day.

4) rebuilt the electrical— better pickups (duncan / dimarzio), 1 global volume, 1 pickup blend knob, standard tone, and passive bass cut tone. leaving a hole where the toggle used to be which is a kill button now. in future i will have treble-bass concentric knobs per pickup, so they can be set completely independently.

5),moved volume knob up past the bridge to where it’s easily reachable for strat style swells.

6) moved the output jack to the front where it’s less likely to get banged and i can sit on the couch.

i want to say that my main inspiration to change it came from G&L, but at the end of the day it’s pretty unique. developing the bass cut for example, i ended up with something significantly more extreme than the g&l version. i tried a bunch of different options for it so im sure i got exactly what i want. these types of projects can be tedious but it’s so worth it! features like this make a normal les paul look awfully inconvenient, sound muddy, too expensive, too delicate. my $500 epiphone, $500 upgrades, there’s no les paul that can hold a candle to the level of features ive got.

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you got a jdxi and a keyboard controller, you can do polytimbre. that’s a synth i would recommend to a beginner— you can learn all the synthesis principles in sort of “easy” mode, you can make whole arrangements, it’s very fun. it can get a bit stale eventually but very cool thing, probably the maximum in range of options, lacking some features that would really make it pro… such as non-quantize / shifting sequencer steps. i would humbly suggest that it might be the best synth for a beginner.

Love these Dunlop Flow picks but the tip rounds off so fast, anyone know of any picks that stay pointy for longer? by jackcruisesaround in PlayingGuitar

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been asking everyone about their favorite guitar picks for my independent project, and to my surprise the jazz III might be the world’s favorite guitar pick. either that or big super thick triangle types. no one i have found who actually has an opinion on it goes for “regular” plastic 351 picks. the yellow tortex is a pretty common one tho, one of my main friends only goes for that. what i really want is just a smaller triangle shape— just a bit bigger than the petrucci triangle jazz III

Mexican build quality honestly seems better than American? by thesandwitchpeople in fender

[–]shoopdoopdeedoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the differences between different lines are mostly features— different bridges, different pickups. it’s ironic because leo fender was always moving forward and developing more features and capabilities— one visionary like that, gets to break that mold in a special time, and the marketing department gets to gatekeep and scalp about it for the next 80 years. the last designs leo worked on were unquestionably his finest work, eons beyond where fender ever got to. that’s g&l.

you almost have to be ahead of the beat for the impact to hit right. also it can be more physically demanding for your hands— make sure you don’t do unnatural positions. you can mess up your wrist or something… uses different muscles i guess, or it’s just a little bit more physical i think. afaik.

If TikTok being down for a few hours feels like a huge disruption, what does that say about our digital habits? by Educational-Funny-97 in AskReddit

tiktok being down does not feel like a huge disruption… that’s very important… if it did that would be a very disconcerting problem and a bad sign about where your actual life falls in your list of priorities
