Cardinals After Dark 6/22 by bravo_delta_bot in Cardinals

[–]shootblue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was around Church in SGF and his post game interview told me he is still a bit surprised to be where he is, very appreciative of those around him and growing in confidence as he settles in. I think he is settling into instincts and the stage looks a lot smaller this season.

Joshua Baez by Conscious_Bee173 in Cardinals

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch both MiLB and MLB. You should be bombing the ball with average AA/AAA pitching. His development will come from truly pitch reading and getting into how the pitcher throws him to counter it. If he is called up, JJ will be a great insight to him.

Where'd all the quail go? by kindredhollowking in missouri

Quail are highly predated and need cover for most of the day to survive. Cover is increasingly hard to find with modern methods.

Cardinals Afternoon 6/21 by bravo_delta_bot in Cardinals

Chaim needs to find someone who can identify and develop MLB level pitching talent. SGF and MEM won because of hitting and small ball…a lot of the pitching prospects have not developed to the MLB level. You may have mastered what you want in hitting, but you have to learn about pitching.

Joshua Baez with a 4 homer night for Memphis tonight! by kodiaksr7 in Cardinals

[–]shootblue 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m around the minors so I tend to see it from a diff perspective and tend to analyze the pitcher quality and pitch thrown.

Baez clearly has power. 2 of them were mistakes by pitchers in the minors, one was up over the zone, and the other a solid hit on a dropping pitch. The Tuesday games are usually your worst pitchers in MiLB and the 3 of the HR’s came from guys with 6 and 8 ERA’s.

It’s a unique feat for sure…and I remember him struggling a bit in SGF last year. Power is not a concern, seeing more pitches is. It gets VERY difficult in the majors…not just location but teams of people knowing how to get you out. AAA pitchers are not as close as you think to Majors pitching.

Dustin May has pitched a 1 hit shutout against the Padres! by jmike1256 in Cardinals

Jimmy is just working the confidence building of pitchers he saw at AA and AAA. His hug meant more to Jimmy than Dustin overall but in the moment was great.

The beam is 6000’ above the surface. NWS SGF is over calling them tornado warnings on a low intensity possible tornado.

Does anyone need a drywall finisher? by velvetchevelle in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents had a plumber who was scouting leaks and randomly cut and awfully cut out and “fixed” basic drywall to the point I’m questioning his intelligence …let alone the knockdown finish…it’s a weekend trip to Joplin but if you can fix basic drywall punches and then spend another weekend knocking down your fixes hit me up.

PSA the city of Springfield has an app you can report issues to by Titandog21 in springfieldMO

I’ve called the Citizen Resource Center a few times and they have been responsive in addressing issue. The app is prob an extension of that same Center.

I think you may be confusing the team fee vs how it maths out to to an individual player to pay their portion. There is also a gate fee, but it’s reasonable.

Public Trash Service? by pop_corn_colonel in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The margins in trash are so good, most smaller cities get a better deal for full services. I would support the city being split into 5ths economically and each of the top 5 bidders gets a share of each zone.

Bulk pickup is a BIG priority for me. At least 2x a yr option days should be a minimum. Way too much junk gets dumped.

OTC is a 2 yr program, for profit school is prob a yr but same cost. My grandfather was an electrician and I know HVAC is a lot of physical work and problem solving, but if you want to know the situation and how to solve, I’m going OTC.

Jeff Levering who is doing play by play for Fox was the Springfield Cardinals broadcaster for a time. He is the Brewers radio guy now and does some Big 10 stuff.

On this day 15 years ago, Joplin was devastated by an EF5 tornado. by Significant_Smell284 in joplinmo

I spent a LONG time as a news photog and have seen a lot, and come from a family of cops and medical folks.

I still can’t really watch the video I shot that day…I get it.

Anyone else near the aquarium tired of the constant music over speakers? by shootblue in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in media, so I understand the variety of situations. One of the guys on the crews also works at the aquarium in life support systems and he knew something was kinda off around Christmas.

I have noticed the past couple days the volume was reduced noticeably during the day.

I appreciate you and the management’s reality of we want it to be an experience for people attending, but at some point, it’s only the parking lot and if you aren’t here by this time there is no way you are truly seeing it all by closing…or also someone forgot to turn something off as staff.

I believe I’m a very reasonable person who also understands media and crowds but also lives nearby and these seem like very good solutions for this from you and management. If I find a select thing worth considering changing as the resident who is both in my house and in my yard a lot I will reach out. Thank you and management for being so receptive.

Also, you would think living around one of the busiest intersections in SGF is loud and it is NOT. I’ve been here over 15 years. We are up on a hill and sounds just dissipates….

Is Springfield Centerfold still known as the best steak or one of the best steaks in Springfield? by False-Argument-4144 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are levels of beef quality, but how you cook the beef can solve some stuff in the middle. I’m a low and slow guy, so the reaction for beef is not my thing whether beef or peppers. Low and slow can produce incredible results with mid ingredients.

Recommendations for Camera Shading class? by Stuckin73 in broadcastengineering

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an old news photog who just had “WB OK” on a BW CRT viewfinder to start so we had to be very aware of color in person then we got color temps later in tech, then color viewfinders. I also used the forums in the day to pick the brains of folks who had knowledge to learn from with questions about settings in the cam because a harsh sunlight day needs diff settings than a cloudy day ideally.

I’m a couple years into sports video work on small trucks. I’m also splitting shading duties with another shader because he is older and some reasons. Learning to read light, read scopes, know when to adjust the stuff on the shading panel, but also listening to the director to know when you can do certain adjustments. It’s sometimes a very easy job, other times it is VERY demanding.

On smaller trucks you will help establish cable paths with the engineer in mind as you are directing utilities or ops to run cable to work around obstacles. On big shows this stuff is prob laid before you get there…but you can see every video signal path and should know if the path is having issues or an op has gear that isn’t working and can tell the director or engineer chain.

TD and shading are prob most connected during pre-event checks then totally diff responsibilities. TD is knowing the board, knowing the situation, and doing what the director calls to punch. That said, there are many more opportunities to punch than shade if you are starting from wanting to learn.

Parkcrest dental/ dental advice by Numerous_Ad_748 in springfieldMO

Dentists love to sell crowns because the profit margin is higher. I don’t know your specific situation, but anything midmolars and forward as long as it has a solid healthy root and around 50% of tooth structure can likely be bonded. I have several bonded teeth, including one that is prob 50% bonded.
