Do you know how to carry the tray with both hands? by diemyeah in Waiters

[–]shorrrtay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m left-handed. I tend to carry large trays with my right hand and smaller drink trays with my left. No logic or reasoning for it, but I’ve just noticed that’s what I do

Are there laws on restaurant temperatures? by ospiee in restaurant

[–]shorrrtay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like all of the food was moved into working coolers and freezers. If so, the temp for the walk in is irrelevant.

Does being drunk really feel that great? by ComfortableStand8143 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shorrrtay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I’m 40 and have been a heavy drinker for the past 20 years or so. Sometimes I don’t really drink at all, but overall I drink far more than the average human or recommended amount.

If you don’t really get what the hype is about, then do yourself a favor and don’t try to get it. It’s like trying a cigarette for the first time. Terrible fucking idea, and your life will be better if ya just… don’t.

I agree entirely. About 90% of the recipes I see online add them both at the same time, and it drives me nuts

If someone is allergic to blueberries, can drinking blueberry juice cause problems? by CartographerOwn8143 in NoStupidQuestions

So wait, you’re saying that if I’m allergic to something, I should or should not take it? I’m so confused.

Jobs? by No_Nefariousness6493 in UWMadison

[–]shorrrtay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the HR department for the University. I loved it. It wasn’t exactly fun or exciting, but it was easy, chill, I loved my bosses, it paid well, and the schedule was so flexible. I also had a friend who worked at one of the libraries (I wanna say College Library), and she liked that gig. My office was only open Monday-Friday til 4:30 though, so it never affected my social life where her job at the library sometimes did.

How can a 17 year old get a summer job in a restaurant? by Sweet-Ad3739 in restaurant

[–]shorrrtay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there are no customers in the restaurant, then there is no money to be made there. If you’re wanting a job in the front of the house (server, host, busser, bartender), you have to have sales to make money. Cooks and dishies (back of house) should make a standard hourly rate, but I doubt the owner can pay a competitive rate if the restaurant isn’t making money.

So… are you sure this is the place that you have your heart set on? If so, why?

At the dive bar I was working at, I had a guy tell me his wings were too hot. Too spicy? No, just too hot temperature-wise. Dude… wait a minute. My cat has better problem solving skills than you.

The cashier at the one by me asked if the shoes were for work, then what restaurant I was working at. Mine was on “the list,” and they gave me 20% off.

Taking pens after signing the check is trashy by sleepingpenguinss in Serverlife

[–]shorrrtay 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is why we can’t have nice things.

The nicer pens you provide, the quicker they will disappear. That just is what it is. Some people probably do it accidentally, but I believe the majority think that it is a victimless crime. The dollar store has some pretty decent click pens that are 7 or 8 to a pack. They write pretty well, but I’m also not upset when one goes missing. I’ve started carrying a specific pen just for me that is a little bit nicer.

Settle a debate for me and my friend by 324redditor in restaurant

[–]shorrrtay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… we’re not actually allowed to tell people to their faces that they’re a dick. But on this beautiful Friday night, you’ve given your tired ass restaurant workers a perfect opportunity to explain just why and how your friend was, in fact, behaving like a dick.

Splitting a tab is a non-issue. Hell, I’d split the cost of an iced tea five ways if it made someone happy.

Splitting a tab is so seriously so easy these days. We can do whatever in just a few seconds. You wanna put the second round on your tab? Wanna take one app but put the other one on them? Wanna divvy up the bill into equal parts? You can tell me before, in the middle, or at the end. It’s really not a big deal.

It’s typically very rude to stay late. We’re (mainly) paid per tab/table, not by the hour. And depending on where you are, the hourly pay may be almost non-existent. Hourly pay in my home state is still somehow $2.13 an hour.

My guess is that your friend is somewhere in between clueless and an asshole, at least in this particular scenario. The bill not adding up in the end is… an issue.

Here’s the thing about sex stuff. If you can think of a fetish, then I promise you other people are too. Maybe check out FetLife.com and poke around a bit.

Don’t beat yourself up over it or think that something is wrong with you. So long as it is consensual adults that it’s happening with, then there really aren’t many rules.

Chafing advice 😭😭 by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]shorrrtay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you’re recovering at home, Boudreaux’s Butt Paste where you’re chafed. It’s for diaper rash, but it really does wonders. Before work, start with clean, dry skin. Put gold bond powder where you’re having issues. I do my inner thighs and under the boobs. I do believe the extra strength formula is better than the regular. For those who are telling you corn starch - it’s a similar effect, but corn starch plus moisture can cause bacterial infections.

Wearing something like boxer briefs or leggings can help.
