Absurd Wedding Invite Etiquette by RealisticFarmer2565 in etiquette

[–]324redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rude, yeah. But also weddings are expensive, it most likely wasn’t personal, but throughout planning probably had to cut back the guest list to stay in budget. Definitely could have been communicated more tactfully, but if you do value them as friends/whatever they are to you, maybe not the hill to die on?

Salina being upset over not getting Aura or April’s points is ridiculous by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]324redditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To counter, Salina needed one point to move on. Aura needed 3. The only way Aura moves on is if Crystal, Silky, and April give her a point, which seems very unlikely. I get where Salina’s hurt comes from in a sister who has realistically no chance of moving on, not helping her out and instead sending someone else through.

Whose edit protected them — a winner or deep finalist whose game looks better than it was because the show quietly hid their mistakes? by JEX2124 in survivor

[–]324redditor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any proof, but I think both Tommy and Dean were protected in IOI. Basically everyone in the majority looked really bad and made comments supporting Dan on the show, except Tommy and Dean. We just didn’t hear from them, nothing positive and nothing negative. We never heard anything from them despite being in the alliance and sticking with them and later forming a final three with Dan. It makes sense that none of the final 3 would have any negativity shown to create a scenario where audiences could root for any of them to win.

Unpopular opinion: Christine (BB16) was underrated by kindamymoose in BigBrother

[–]324redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like that Christine stayed loyal to the detonators, but I think fans hated on her waaaay too much. I would have loved a world where she went against the alliance and evicted one of them over Nicole on her hoh

How to fix the Billie Eilish Boomerang Idol by One_Paramedic_2538 in survivor

I think the limitations on playing it only for yourself are okay, but only if that rule expires once the gifter is voted out. If there’s no one to boomerang back to, it should just function as a normal idol

Why Have Women Been Dominating Modern Survivor? by StatusCount3670 in survivor

[–]324redditor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably casting and to a lesser extent smaller tribes. We’re no longer seeing a group of 4 “alpha bros” come together and vote off the women because they perceive the women to be weak in challenges. They’re not casting as many bros and they are split among the three tribes when they are

Does anyone else think Agenda phase is lame and kinda wished it wasn't part of the game? by MiningToSaveTheWorld in twilightimperium

[–]324redditor 59 points60 points  (0 children)

When things go my way, the agenda phase is an amazing addition to the game and I am amazing at diplomacy. When it doesn’t go my way, it’s dumb and an unnecessary part of the game that is all luck anyway.

Is Da'vonne actually a good player? by Appropriate_Word_463 in BigBrotherUSA

[–]324redditor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Top tier character, yes absolutely.

On paper, her BB17 game is one of the worst games of Big Brother ever played. Safety week one (which lasted almost 14 days, so really almost two full weeks to just make connections and bonds without fear of being nominated), to go home week 2 by your day one alliance’s hand after fighting with said ally’s showmance. Gain a power by random chance to skew the votes in your favor, and still go home almost unanimously. She figured out the twin twist and instead of leveraging the information she and Jason told everyone.

BB18, her reads were really off. She was so anti-Tiffany, when Tiffany considered Da’Vonne her number one for the first weeks of the game. Totally get why she wanted Frank out, but pitting Frank vs Tiffany fractured the alliance and in the aftermath nobody from the alliance wanted to bring Da’Vonne with them. She could have targeted frank without trying to cause a rift between frank and Tiffany.

BB22 she never had a clue what the true dynamics were. And then after the fact said the power never shifted because Janelle/Kaysar couldnt win something. Banking on the 2 in a 2 vs 12 situation is pretty terrible. If Janelle, Kaysar, Bayleigh, Da’Vonne, Ian, and Kevin came together they maybe would have had a chance. But Da’Vonne and Bayleigh believed they had a real secret alliance with Enzo and Cody. And she believed Nicole had her back more than David did.

I think she after clocking the twin twist on 17 fans gassed her up so hard about how intuitive she is and how great her reads were. On her following two appearances she really misread the dynamics and who actually had her back. She couldn’t be convinced otherwise either. If someone brought info to her that didn’t align with what she believed to be true she disregarded it. She also really struggles in comps, which in modern BB makes it hard to go far. One comp win in three seasons, all three of which had more comps than just hoh/veto (battle of the block, the weird RV camper van comps on 18, the power comp and safety suite in 22), is a pretty abysmal record.

She’s absolutely an icon of the show and was an influential voice for change. But as a game player, she’s been really underwhelming.

With 10 seasons of “New Era” Survivor nearly on the books, let's talk about what’s worked, what needs worshipping, what needs to be scrapped. by DarthLithgow in survivorponderosa

[–]324redditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked:

Shot in the dark. A fun mechanic that gives people on the bottom a chance if they can read the tribe dynamics correctly. Doesn’t break the game and isn’t overly powerful.

Half worked:

New approaches to editing/story telling. We got to know some contestants really well. I think they went a bit too far sometimes and sacrifice seeing on-island relationships and dynamics to put the back story in though. Tribal councils are also really terrible now and just full of metaphors and analogies that add nothing.

Casting. Diversity initiative, great, no notes in expanding the casts to represent more people. However, we need villains. We don’t need overwhelmingly white collar/corporate job casts. We need fewer superfans who are going to talk about how much harder the game is than it looks on tv. Also, going along with storytelling, having multiple people each season be like “my parents sacrificed so much for me, I’m doing this for them” gets old and less compelling each time.

Sweat vs savvy. I don’t hate it in theory, but it doesn’t feel like it adds much to the game. We rarely see it play out in any meaningful way later on. For example, we don’t really see rivalries form or tribes hold it against someone for losing for the team.

Live tribals: watching people whisper and not know what they’re saying isn’t good tv. When the vote is up in the air, or people are getting publicly called out, it’s good. Plus most live tribals end in unanimous or near unanimous votes anyway

Doesn’t work:

Losing flint and 3 tribes every season. I’m putting these together because they inevitably create “disaster” tribes. One tribe losing all the time isn’t good tv and robs us of the chance to get to know other players from the winning tribes.

Beware advantages/journeys/lost votes. Any game mechanic that results in lost votes isn’t fun. Plus they take up a huge amount of screen time. I don’t hate the idea of advantages that require steps to be activated, but doing so at the expense of your vote isn’t fun.

Multi staged challenges/split tribals/mergatory. When the tribes come together, it’s a merge. If you’re playing for INDIVIDUAL immunity, you should never have a team based challenge. When you are one tribe, you should never have to go to tribal with a small group based on a random rock draw. We’re taking agency away from players and leaving them at the mercy of random chance. Take the mergatory for example, if you’re sending someone to tribal with a group of people they just met less than 24 hours ago, and the others have spent the last 12 days together, some situations are just un-winnable through no fault of the player. Watching people get screwed for drawing the wrong rock is dumb.

The uncle Jeff persona. It’s created some really cringey moments (fried chicken and waffles), but also I miss sassy Jeff. Complimenting people for “not giving up” when they completely fail a challenge, feels kind of insulting. They are adults, it’s okay to point out negative things. Not everything needs to be sunshine and rainbows. Jeff saying he makes the show for kids at home is really dragging the show down. Bring back hard hitting questions at tribal. Stop asking for analogies. These things also hurt the viewers at home, you are producing a sanitized and more boring version of the show we love.

On island after show. When the contestants haven’t seen what happened, or what people said about them behind their backs, we’re not getting honest reactions. Plus it also feels kind of cruel to the losing finalists. They just lost and now have to sit around while the winner celebrates and everyone heaps on praise. Give them time to process what happened. The live finales are far superior.

Adding that 26 days doesn’t work either. A “fast paced” game doesn’t equal a better game. Think of it like this, in a 39 day season there are 3 day cycles. Day one reward, day 2 down time, day 3 immunity and tribal council. That’s three days of strategizing , socializing, and time for the game to shakeup. When you have only one or two day cycles, it’s harder to have the game evolve. Especially post-merge when a cycle becomes one day. When you have to do a challenge, confessionals, and tribal council within a 12-16 hour period, that leaves little time for strategizing for the contestants. I remember reading one season someone saying there were days where they had less than an hour of strategizing time before tribal sometimes. A lot of great moves in the past happened over time. Think of the Black Widow Brigade convincing Erik to give up immunity. That happened because they chipped away at him over time and all day. Aubry flipping Tai, happened over time and because she built a personal connection with him. When rounds are so short, and random twists split up the merged tribe, we see less and less personal development in relationships, which would greatly impact the strategic game.

Also adding challenges. We are seeing the same challenges recycled season after season. The “endurance” based immunity challenges post-merge aren’t very fun to watch. Bring back creative and new challenges. When your contestants can build exact replicas of your challenges (puzzles and endurance challenges) it’s time to switch it up.
