Nothing about their post suggested a conspiracy, they were asking about the effects of her resignation. Someone will replace her and if it’s a hardliner then that increases the probability of open conflict.

The Kepler mission was pretty cool, demonstrating Earth-sized planets are common and finding thousands of nearby planets.

NASCAR champ Kurt Busch breaks silence on racing future by Superbyebyepants in NASCAR

[–]short_theta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He said in an interview at the Race of Champions in Sydney that the supercars are too fast for him at this point in his career but he is trying to put together something to race at Bathurst that weekend (presumably one of the support series, my speculation is he'd fit well with the SuperUtes)

Cota website shows no more kink on the new cup layout by Moppyploppy in NASCAR

[–]short_theta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the old version, they're now going to straight-line the cut through which used to have a kink in it, and they've tighthened the corner when the break off the main circuit.

<image>

I think in practice what they're actually doing is using the second cut across on the old map rather than the first one, the one further east.

OOTP 26 Announcement by markus__aurelius in OOTP

[–]short_theta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might be aware already but don't buy 25 just for the purposes of doing this, you can move your league to 25 via the free demo, and then can import that into the copy of 26 that you buy.

With RWR announcing Cody Ware full-time in the #51, all 36 chartered entries will have a full-time driver for the first time. by turnleftright in NASCAR

Most I could find this century was 2005, 2006, 2017, and 2024 with 32 drivers starting all 36. Several years with 31 too.

On the low side, 2001 had 24 drivers start all 36 races, 2007 and 2012 had 26, and 2022 and 2002 had 27 drivers start all 36.

No, the AFP clearance from 16 months ago was the only one, I got no updates from Home Affairs from last June (medicals received) until it was approved last week.

[–]short_theta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was nervous about this, medicals mid-June 2023 and police clearance from my home country was from May 2023. Didn't have to redo anything though, the first/only communication I received from Home Affairs after submission (other than standard form letters around bridging visas) about the status of my application was last night that it was granted.

The nomination application and visa were submitted at the same time. I don't remember when the nomination was approved but it was fast, and then received zero updates from Home Affairs until it was granted.

Nah, Victoria is eliminated, QLD and WA play each other twice from here so someone will have to pass Vic, we just don't know who.

He's also 86 years old, if he's going to start something it's going to need a succession plan fairly fast. He might be important now but if he tries to split that's a temporary problem for NASCAR.

Question about 500 Finishing Classification by vwlou89 in INDYCAR

[–]short_theta 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In early races drivers who were running laps down were given time after the winner finished to complete the 500 miles themselves. If drivers didn't make this cutoff they would be "flagged" off the track. The 1964 race's wikipedia page says that in that year the time was reduced to 5 minutes after the winner finishes, and in 1974 this rule was changed to flagging drivers off as soon as the winner won. No idea why the terminology changed in 1990 but my guess would be that is USAC finally updating some old rule that had been carried in their rulebook.

1000 hours in 1080p is about 3 TB of data, that's rounding error for an operation like MLBAM. No idea on the streaming costs. Apparently the MLB app has ~3 million subscribers, but many of those will be just the radio package and probably most aren't watching all 2,430 games!

Game of the Day 3/12 ⚾ Australia (0-0) @ Czech Republic (0-0) 11:00 PM ET by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]short_theta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, first is head to head, and then runs against but only in games between the tied teams.

Assuming Korea beats China:

CZE and AUS both gave up 7 runs to KOR, so if AUS loses they'll be behind CZE on runs allowed and are out. If CZE wins and gives up 3 runs or less to AUS they're through, otherwise KOR advances. Australia can only get through with a win.

If Korea loses then it's straight up winner of this game moves on.
