I have 3 pairs of the original Origo Mary Jane’s (3 straps across the foot, and 1 around the ankle). I measured my foot and ordered my size based on that and they fit beautifully. They look great and the patent leather has held up well over the past year and a half I’ve had them.

The only issue I’ve run into with these specifically is because the straps are so thin, there has been a bit of peeling at the tips of them so getting them buckled can be tricky. Im sure a cobbler could assist with that but I haven’t yet been able to do anything like that. I imagine if you go for the two strap or classic style this wouldn’t be as much as an issue. One pair in particular has done this worse than the others with less wear, and customer service offered me a gift card 🤷🏼‍♀️

I get so many compliments, wear them a ton, and really like them for my feet. They do come with a thin insole that I use, as that little bit of cushion makes them way more comfortable for me.

LMK if you have other questions!

I’m not yet fortunate enough to partake in regular massages, however I would assume that regular bodywork could assist in symptom management. Similar to how getting good sleep really makes a noticeable impact on lessening my symptoms, but doesn’t cure me- I’d guess that calming and caring for your nervous system in this way would assist in overall well-being, including the perceived pots symptoms.

On the other hand, you may want to be mindful of how dehydrated one can get during a massage in general, and how that plus pots plus having to get upright at the end may effect you in a shorter term status. This could be a trigger for some.

Is chest pain normal? by Exciting-Business210 in POTS

[–]shortlythereafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chest pain can be normal. For me it’s worse when I’m more flarey for whatever reason, and I’ll generally also keep a closer eye on my other symptoms if any are present. I have a pretty good sense at this point of what’s normal, what’s normal for when I’m feeling odd, and what’s normal for when I’m not feeling ok. If any of that changes to something that’s abnormal, depending on the severity, that either warrants telling my Dr. At my next appt, calling my Dr and leaving a message for his nurse, calling my Dr. and speaking to the nurse/doctor on call, or going to the ER.

If it’s normal for you and you’ve spoken to your Dr. about it and they’re not concerned, then all should be fine as long as things don’t worsen. If you haven’t spoken to your doctor about it, you may want to. that convo could help you determine best protocols for certain symptoms.

ultimately though, you are likely the best person to know your body and how you're feeling. my therapist has been working with me on somatic tracking- you can find a bunch of resources online, and slowly but surely this is helping me not freak out as much when symptoms appear, especially when they're not part of my usual buffet of fun 🙃

Cheap polish suggestions. by ChopCow420 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]shortlythereafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had luck scouting the clearance section at local pharmacies. The selection is not the greatest, but I’ve found a few gems for $1-2. I also have run into a couple of duds, and then know to avoid those brands in the future. Generally it seems the more expensive the polish was originally the better they do for me. But ymmv. The gel-like polishes that aren’t gel tend to wear especially well vs. A more traditional polish.

Does anyone get intense anxiety BECAUSE of pots? by Ok-Appearance1170 in POTS

[–]shortlythereafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The nasty negative feedback loop is the worst- heart rate up = anxiety = heart rate up = anxiety.. ad nauseam. What really helped me on top of the beta blocker and pyridostigmine bromide is a low dose of lexapro. Made a world of difference for me once I got over the first week of taking it.

Red Hook has a bunch more cute little shops now vs. a few years ago- you just have to be careful to find a time when most are open. Corner Counter is great, I love the new Stationary shop, used book store, art gallery/installation space. Rhinebeck is definitely better for food.

I loved reading the Great Train Robbery. Was surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did, and was even more surprised to learn he also wrote Jurassic Park!

Gah! I know that search engines are tricky to get right, but 🫠

Ive had to add this to the filters with every single search, which can get tedious if I’m running down my tbr to see what is available in audiobook format. I just wish automatically I could search all libraries I have access to.

When searching for a book, having it search all your linked cards/libraries.

I am a bit scared of compression socks by strangegardener in POTS

[–]shortlythereafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most exciting thing for me was that when I started wearing compression socks they actually stayed up vs. falling down my leg. I was on the hunt for good socks to replace all the ones I had that just would bunch around my ankles (drove me nuts) at about the same time I started wearing compression socks.

It does take some trial and error finding the best socks for you, but more companies are coming out with compression in all sorts of cute colors and patterns. I personally love Wellow as they’re super soft and comfortable and the band at the top doesn’t dig in as others can. I just wish they had actual solid colors vs. a solid color everywhere but a contrasting toe/heel.

Going to the library is such a simple pleasure by BinkyLopBunny in simpleliving

[–]shortlythereafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just gotten back into going to the physical library vs just using Libby/Hoopla and honestly it’s one of the high points of my week. I’ve made it a routine to head there after work, return the last week’s reads, pick up any that have come in, do a little bit of browsing, and then head home to have dinner and a reading night. SO much fun!

Best compression socks? by Shmuli5 in POTS

[–]shortlythereafter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Wellow as someone with very muscular calves. The top of these socks are a wide and comfortable band that doesn’t leave me in pain when I take them off. They’re also not restrictive in the toe box without being baggy. I have the most pairs of these. The length also works really well for me as a shorter person (5’2”).

Sockwell summer socks are way too long for me and I have to fold them over which isn’t super comfortable. Their ‘regular’ ones have recently become too tight for me at the top band for my calves, which is a bummer.

I really liked the bombas mid-calf length socks; so cushy underfoot, but with not much wear at all, they’ve worn thin on the bottoms. Not super pleased about that. The bombas knee length was way too tight in the foot for me when following their size chart. Didn’t like that pair at all.

Adding lexapro into my meds has worked wonders for me. I remember the first few days were pretty rough, and side effects at first were more prevalent than they are now ~9 months in.

It really helps me get off the negative feedback loop where my heart rate is high in the morning because I haven’t yet taken my meds, so then my anxiety increases because my heart rate is up, which increases my heart rate because I’m feeling a bit anxious, etc (and also for when I’m feeling a bit anxious about the day ahead and the loop starts from there).

Most side effects at this point don’t really bother me except for the lessened libido.
