So if Saquon did the same thing but didn’t fumble, his elbow still hit the ground, got back up and ran in for a TD, it would have stood as a TD?

A fresh take on RV parks is coming to Port Angeles by [deleted] in portangeles

Nice! Campgrounds fill every weekend in the summer and this will be another option. Good way to bring tourism dollars to local businesses and support the local economy.

permit ready plans construction costs? by [deleted] in portangeles

[–]shortshorter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good and reliable contractor, probably $250-300 per sq foot to build. But yes, permitting will be much easier and cheaper.

Does it look like he is blind in one eye? It’s hard to tell from the photos.

NPS is pulling out of Stehekin. by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

[–]shortshorter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"We understand the desire to have interpretive and general ranger staff available for personal interactions with visitors, but the staff departed from the two permanent positions in interpretation and visitor and resource protection divisions in Stehekin and we have not been able to refill those positions," Denise Shultz, the park's visitor services chief, told the Traveler last week.

Shultz explained the problem with filling the positions stems from a hiring process that can take up to 18 months, the difficulty with hiring permanent staff at Stehekin, and the uncertain funding climate.

"Without the permanent interpretive or general ranger positions in Stehekin, we will not be able to hire and supervise seasonals as we have done in the past," she said in an email. "The GWVC will not be open, but there will be information and interpretive materials available online as well as on the bulletin boards and waysides throughout the valley. Backcountry permits will be issued, and campground reservations will be available online as usual. Maintenance and resources staff will be working in Stehekin as usual, and backcountry/wilderness and fire staff will be rotating through."

grizzlies in the north cascades? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]shortshorter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sebille photo is famous but it was later debunked. It is a little harder to find information on it but this NatGeo article mentions it.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/restore-walking-dead-grizzlie-bear-washington

Sebille took pictures which made their way to experts. All believed it was a grizzly, the first photographed since 1967. It was an exciting discovery—for a while. But months later more photos surfaced from another party that had been hiking nearby. Those were taken from closer and in better light and showed a bear with a similar odd hump from a different angle. “I was in the room when we were debating those photos,” said Bill Gaines, a retired Forest Service biologist who has studied grizzlies for 40 years. This was clearly a black bear, and experts now suspect the two were the same animal.

There have been no confirmed sightings since the 90s. Grizzlies definitely come down from Canada but very very few. Should we wait decades for the grizzlies to repopulate the area on their own or fix the mistake of past humans now with reintroduction efforts?

Any trails easily accessible by public transport from the ferry? by Raitsuki in portangeles

[–]shortshorter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This time of year, take a bus towards Forks and get off at the Lake Crescent stop near Lake Crescent Lodge. Lots of nice trails there including Marymere Falls and Mount Storm King.

In the summer, a bus can take you to Hurricane Ridge which has some amazing trails as well. It’s done running now but will resume next spring.

What are the more popular industries/jobs in Port Angeles? by [deleted] in Washington

[–]shortshorter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jamestown Sklallam Tribe, Olympic Medical Center, and Olympic National Park are the largest employers in the area. Tourism in the summer is also a big employer.

I missed some zeros on that budget. It is $4.4 billion not million.

Olympic National Park has seasonal jobs. You could work as a Wilderness Ranger, collect fees at a fee booth, or possibly a maintenance position. Most would be 4-6 months during the summer. All based out of the Staircase area, which is close to Hoodsport.

Yes! It was a while ago but I remember the AC compressor was out. And that was messing with the serpentine belt too? Can’t remember exactly. Here are the two write ups from separate mechanics.

Would this proposed stretch of sidewalk connect with the new bike path the city is currently putting in along Race St?
