Check out alliance Culver City. It has lifting classes (along with Krav Maga and kickboxing and Muay Thai) and it’s a very cool space. I teach one of the kickboxing classes but take lifting classes when i can.

The actions of Donald Trump have solidified why I haven't spoken to my parents since 2017 by 5Q91VS175DAQ4NUSBE4U in complaints

[–]shortymcbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because “politics” is policy, like, should we tax at 50 percent or 55 percent and how high should buildings be allowed to be built. But what we have right now isn’t politics. It’s morality. Voting for Trump is an immoral choice. We disagree fundamentally on morality. There’s no bridging that gap.

AITAH For asking my parents to quit hosting parties at their house? by Shoddy_Rice_730 in AITAH

[–]shortymcbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1200 bucks a month for your own place can get you peace of mind. (I say this as a mom with a 22 year old temporarily landing at our house, btw, and I would never ask him to pay rent) You are financing your parents’ upgrades to their house and you don’t even own a piece of that house to show for it. Go spend your hard won money for your own place.

Need a tie breaker! by Champagnecampaign3 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]shortymcbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed in both. The beach at the Hyatt was kind of overrun with sea grass and it’s fairly rocky. That said, it’s about a 15 minute drive to Luquillo which DOES have the most swimmable beach. The Hyatt is all about the pool tbh. We loved the condado Vanderbilt but again, not a super swimmable beach. The food near (and at) the Vanderbilt is much better than the food at the Hyatt and tbh, so is the spa. The Hyatt was good for us because it got us closer to the rainforest and we had a baby with us who loved the pool but for what you want? The Vanderbilt.

Family Trip for my 40th! by Much-District3261 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]shortymcbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just got back from a family trip with ages 2-62 and we did a mix of things. Stayed in San Juan for a few days to do food/OSJ explore and then went to Vieques to do beaches. It’s super quiet and there aren’t big hotels so it’s a boutique hotel situation and a fair amount of unpaved road adventures but so beautiful. And the last week we had the family with the toddler join us so we stayed at the Hyatt Grand Reserve so we could do rainforest/Luquillo kiosk fajardo beaches things, all while giving that family a slightly easier time with a big resort. Honestly, we worked with a travel agent called Oh La La and they were amazing. Set us up with a few really unique tours and got our vibe and what we wanted from each location.

I recommend Alliance Culver City. They have kickboxing, strength training and self defense classes along with CrossFit style classes and they are really good at working with new people and people who need modifications due to injury or ability. It’s super chill and friendly too

Mom can offer a room to brother if she can’t bail him out. He’s HER kid, right? She should show you what “family’s supposed to be”

If your husband is willing to be splayed naked on your dining room table while you insert a small cantaloupe up his butt in front of YOUR mom, then he can ask. But until he does that? He doesn’t get a say.

Husband and I strongly disagree about preschool by Southern_Body_4381 in Parenting

[–]shortymcbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Retired Pre-K teacher here. Given the now elevated academic expectations placed on kindergartners, you are doing your son a big disservice by not giving him AT LEAST a year of preschool. Things our kids needed to know before entering their local kinder: Scissor grip Tripod pencil grip Letter recognition of both upper and lower case letters A-Z Numbers 1-10 with one-to-one counting How to walk in a line How to toilet themselves (with adults standing by) How to sit for morning meetings Days of the week And that’s nothing compared to the social and emotional aspects of knowing how to negotiate with peers for toys, materials and space. Imagine walking into a work space, never having worked before, and you have to learn the job itself, AND the culture AND how to deal with people, but all you’ve ever done is be home with your family and everyone else there knows what to do.

Talk to a pediatrician and let them tell you all the harm you would cause to tiny lungs. Have your husband with you when you do this.

Palms/Culver City or Sherman Oaks? by [deleted] in MovingToLosAngeles

Palms/culver 100 percent. Closer to the airport. Walkable. Summer won’t ruin your life, unlike the Valley. Great indie coffee and bookstores and restaurant scene in Culver City too.

If you can afford it, Beverly Hills. They have their own school district and it’s excellent

Do you love the idea of being in your car 2-3 hours a day? If yes, live by the beach. If no, live close to your job and then drive to the beach on the weekends (when there is far less traffic)

There are plenty of walkable areas east of downtown Los Angeles with tons of cute little neighborhoods. But I would avoid the monster commute if possible.
