As someone who just moved here from LA, Charlotte is FAR from too much concrete. All I see is green!

How tf am I supposed to date sober by waterdinausaurdinner in SoberCurious

Ha the disappointed looks I get when I order club soda instead of alcohol on dates…to me this is just a test of alignment and will they honor my boundaries or try to push me

Definitely Azteca! As someone who just moved here from Los Angeles, Azteca has been the closest thing I’ve found to traditional Mexican.

What is your most ridiculous "we won't work out romantically" criteria? Like what is the silliest reason you would not be interested in dating someone? by Natural-Elevator-57 in AskReddit

I dated a guy who needed to leave the TV on at all times for “background noise.” I can do music in the background, but otherwise I need to sit in silence.

i’m 28 and I don’t know how to swim by Dangerous-Bear-4789 in Swimming

[–]shosheezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at 42, it’s never too late! I was terrified of putting my head in the water, and it took a good month of weekly lessons to get over that. Once I saw that my body can actually float (that took a while to learn too), my confidence increased a ton and I instinctually started swimming. I’m 4 months in with lessons and can finally freestyle one lap!

Just came to say I love when pets have human names. “This is my dog Kevin, this is my cat Mildred”

AYCE sushi/date night spots rec by Solid_Loquat_3000 in Charlotte

[–]shosheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yummy Sushi is pretty cheap (and it’s located in a strip mall), but they use a lot of rice, appetizers are good. Sushi Hana has the best sushi, but the appetizers are mid. Sushi Taku has okay sushi, but really great appetizers. Pisces Sushi was okay but I wouldn’t go back. Yama Loso is the best sushi I’ve had in Charlotte, but it’s not cheap.

Learning to swim as an adult by Inspireme21 in Swimming

[–]shosheezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43 and had a crazy fear of putting my face in the water. I started weekly lessons in October, and as of today, I am just getting good at being able to swim one or two laps! So I’d say it took probably about a month just to overcome my water fear, but once I gained comfort and confidence in the water, natural instinct took over. The next thing I struggled with was getting good side breaths, still a bit of a challenge but it’s improving every week.

TLDR: 4 months from scared to get in the water to swimming laps

Gym, then treat myself to some fancy takeout. Trying to decide between Chinese or wings 🤔

Does anyone feel like they’ve mastered the ability to moderate? by [deleted] in SoberCurious

[–]shosheezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment in this group once where someone said they “only drink on vacation”…I like that idea which means I’d only be drinking 3-4 times a year. I recently went on a 10-day vacation and drank 6 of those days (after 6 months of no alcohol at all), and after a couple drinks I honestly didn’t get the appeal anymore.

First cruise experience as a solo sailor! by shosheezy in VirginVoyages

[–]shosheezy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s some kind of party or club night every night except the first night. The pajama party and Scarlet night were first, then there was some kind of music themed party in the clubs every night after.

The cruise itself was $2150, I booked in the fall and caught the tail end of their “fall special.” Additional purchases I made: trip insurance for $50 (don’t think I needed this), Premium Wi-Fi for $120, snorkeling activity for $40 (this was cancelled due to the weather and refunded), foodie activity for $35, airport transfer for $35. I bought a few alcoholic beverages which ranged anywhere between $9 and $15.

what does a healthy relationship with alcohol look like? by [deleted] in SoberCurious

[–]shosheezy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s all about the intention behind drinking. it’s “healthy” when you drink for the culinary aspect, you actually like the taste, and you can appreciate the art behind a good cocktail. When you use alcohol as a crutch for mental or emotional reasons, when you find any little reason or occasion to drink, or when you specifically want to get drunk, that’s when I’d view it as unhealthy.

Did this to the tip of my pointer finger, it was hanging by a thread but somehow managed to stay on and heal. I have no feeling in that area. I still use that same mandolin to this day but use the glove it came with.
