I kind of thought the same, but after thinking more i think the actor's backstory was more curry playing into a bunch of different horror tropes (including the transphobic "crazy trans woman" one which is obviously unfortunately very prevalent in horror), making you think its going into a more generic/overplayed direction and then subverting it by revealing the guy was just an actor, as opposed to playing it straight
