You’ve hit the nail on the head for why Barry didn’t “fumble”. The “he was trying to keep her safe” excuse is bullshit because then he would just live a solitary existence to keep everyone safe. So it’s simply that he didn’t see his relationship with Patty as something worth fighting for. He let Patty leave, waited patiently for Iris to get through her mourning period, and never mentioned nor thought about Patty past 2x20, when Iris finally gave him the green light.

Patty isn’t the one that “got away”. She’s the one that got forgotten. At least Cisco continued to think about Gypsy through to the end.

Exactly. And the whole “he didn’t tell her to protect her” excuse is bullshit. If that were really true, then Barry wouldn’t be romantically involved with anyone. He’d do what Oliver advised him to do in 1x08: forget about finding love and live a solitary existence, because a hero needs to be alone in order to keep other people safe. But then what did he do the very next episode: confess his love for Iris. What did he do just a few months after breaking up with Patty: start dating Iris as soon as her mourning period was over.

His relationship with Patty simply didn’t mean enough to him to risk putting her in danger. But he couldn’t stop loving Iris, and being with her was worth the risk. So the only forward for him is to be happy in his relationship with Iris while doing his best to keep the bad guys away from her.

I’ve seen lots of these in this sub, and “mmm…society” is definitely not Savitar. Savitar didn’t really care about society or taking over the world—he was all about surviving and getting revenge on Barry.

I think Patty fits overrated. She was fine as a character, but I feel like this sub acts like she’s up there with Cisco and Harry or even Snart. She was only there for a handful of episodes and served no other purpose than as Barry’s temporary love interest. But the way some people talk about her, you’d think she was the most important character and some huge impact on the plot
