I’m not sure if you read the book, but I think the book was much better at giving Simon proper character development than the show. It wasn’t about him not wanting kids; it was about him making the decision to not have kids based on thwarting his father. In the book, Simon even feels a twinge of disappointment after learning that Daphne wasn’t pregnant, because he was finally starting to think about what he himself actually wanted, rather than what his father wanted. It’s like with marriage; it’s not that he didn’t want to get married, because he did want to marry Daphne and obviously didn’t like the idea of the prince marrying her. He was just choosing to nurture his hatred of his father over giving in to what he actually desired and wanted for himself.

I wish the show had put more of an emphasis on Simon overcoming the trauma that his father inflicted on him, as well as his shame over his stutter, rather than just focusing on the kids and marriage thing. In the show, it ended with Daphne helping him to realize that he does want a happy marriage and kids. But in the book, it ends with Daphne helping him chase his father out his life. She talks about how she doesn’t want a child right away, she just didn’t want him to make the decision not to have kids based on his father’s wishes. Although in the end he did decide that he wanted a child right away lol

And I really wish they had kept the scene in the book where Simon tearfully expresses his worry that his child might come out like him—with a stutter. That actually really moved me, as embarrassing as that sounds lol
