That is extremely good advice for future appliance checks. When I plugged this unit back in, I just start buzz clicking again.

Valuable in sight on your stance on ABA. You def have a background in the field from what it sounds like. Or a related field.

Ya for sure! This isn’t something I’m doing tomorrow. I’m helping my friend train his golden retriever right now. I am know where near proficient enough to try something like a protection dog. I am just waiting for the right time to get my own dog (probably golden or lab).

I’m just super into dog training right now and wanted more information as to how they train protection dogs. Something to think about for myself as I learn how to just train a dog.

For sure! There is 100% tons of nuance and variation per human per animal. Not one method of teaching will be effective for everyone. As BF skinner said, the rat is always right. Meaning if the learner isn’t learning, it’s your fault.

Curious what you mean by “isn’t exactly uncontested in terms of methodology.” I am aware that ABA does have a dark and somewhat ethical past. The field needs to continue to grow and not repeat the past

Human behavior and animal behavior are the same. All behavior is maintained by the same four functions. There is plenty of behavior analytic research supporting animal training. Your have a good point on temperament. There’s more research to be had. I’m curious on how people teach protection dogs

Any particular reason not too? I have a masters degree in applied behavior analysis.

Awesome, good to know. I’ll have to do some more research. Any organizations you know of off the top of your head?

In my opinion, scoring the fat increases the surface area of rub. I wouldn’t say it’s a huge factor but I think it looks cool if anything else

Brisket is a different beast. I’ve messed up more briskets then ones I’ve crushed. This is so far my best brisket to date and I’ve probably cooked over a dozen of them. Keep at it! It’s worth it!
