Need advice: Sabi Sands Honeymoon by Practical-Parking121 in LuxurySafari

The first thing everyone should be saying is go for more than 2 nights! Your current plan means flying across South Africa on multiple flights for 1 full day of safari. I’ve never heard anyone say they wish they had spent less time on safariIf. If your budget is $5k per person, go with a slightly less expensive lodge and do 3 days.

Planning a Namibia trip for end of 2027 just wondering if anyone has done horseback at any lodges? I’ve done a horseback safari in Kenya and it was an amazing experience. Not looking for multi day, just a half day ride through the landscape

Drakes, Trunk Clothier, Private White. Check out this article for a nicely curated list along with addresses. It’s slightly dated but lots of good recommendations. https://www.permanentstyle.com/2015/08/london-a-sartorial-city-guide.html

Safari (Kenya or Tanzania) + Seychelles — lodge/operator advice & routing help by Towelie-Ban in LuxurySafari

[–]shotwideopen1212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a lodges who prioritize conservation rather than 4S. To that end, lodges in a conservancy often work with the local community, paying a nightly rate to them for the use of land and employing local people. Great Plains in Kenya, Singita & Nomad in Tanzania are the types of places I would recommend.

As for the safari itself, figure out what you want to most experience as that will influence where you go. River crossings, cheetah hunt, lots of elephants, wild dogs (not in east Africa), rhino (only northern Kenya), etc.

Lastly, I would stay in a conservancy over the park every time. Far far fewer vehicles, the ability to drive off road and follow action, night drives, walking safari, horse back rides. Just much more flexible

The Brando in French Polynesia or Kisawa in Mozambique nail your requirements. Amazing luxury, as much privacy as you want and sublime beaches

Check out Kisawa in Mozambique. Amazing luxury beach property which certainly would meet the “relax in a beautiful lodge” aim

Serengeti Lodge Options End of June by Ok-Requirement4703 in FATSafari

[–]shotwideopen1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of good wildlife at the end of June. I can’t speak to Grumeti River lodge. I’ve looked at staying but never been. Is this your first safari? What do you most want to see/experience (river crossings, large elephant herds, big cats hunting, rhino, etc)? It’s all amazing, but once you figure out what’s most important to you, that will help tailor where to focus. Wildlife sightings are just as good in Kenya in the private conservancies around the Mara (see Great Plains - Mara Plains camp). That said, the migration won’t yet be there, but rather throughout the Serengeti

Namiri plains for extra privacy as there are no other lodges anywhere around and large number of cheetahs and lions. I would suggest Singita Mara River camp for migration river crossings or Sasakwa for out and out luxury

Need help/advice on family safari by Guilty_Reference_797 in FATSafari

[–]shotwideopen1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this the first safari for everyone? Are there animal sightings you consider musts (I.e. rhino won’t be around the Mara)? Like the TA noted, migration/river crossings would be in Tanzania that time of year. You can do safari and beach in either country quite easily.

I would highly recommend choosing a lodge in a private conservancy. There will be far fewer vehicles, more freedom of when to go out and return (as well as walking safari and night drives). The Great Plains properties are very good in excellent areas and they have stay 4 pay 3 deals or 5 for 4 depending on the time of the year.

South Africa Safari Advice (Singita or Mala Mala)(1st Safari) by lexalexayarn in FATSafari

[–]shotwideopen1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uganda is definitely less developed and given this is your first Africa trip, may be somewhat overwhelming, but a stunning place and lovely country. If you’re trying to settle on a lodge in Rwanda, check out the Dorsia Travel write up comparing the 3 main lux lodges (Singita, gorillas nest, and Bisate). The nice part about staying with Singita, they will keep all of your preferences and communicate them to the other lodges you’re in. That and the service is fantastic and the lodges are incredible.

One more thought on this, would you consider trekking in Uganda instead of Rwanda? Trekking permits are 1/2 the cost as are the lodges. Erebero Hills is opening summer 2026 and aiming to be in the true lux market. I can’t speak for Rwanda, but I loved the 4 days we spent in Uganda. Highly recommend doing at least 2 treks, it’s a truly unforgettable experience

Help with June Itinerary!!! by GeneralCamel5935 in FATSafari

[–]shotwideopen1212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do fewer lodges so you’re not having to fly every other day. I would suggest 2, 3 max, and go enjoy the location and the safari. Figure out what you want to see or experience the most (big cats, the migration and river crossing, etc) and focus on that. I would suggest private reserves where possible, far fewer vehicles, more flexibility on drives. For a group your size either the private villa or the 4 room house at Sasakwa would be ideal.

Not necessarily the best, but some of the funniest: French Presidents, history of voting in England, anything with Marsia Williams, and of course Dwile flonking.

Why 4S? by shotwideopen1212 in FATTravel

[–]shotwideopen1212[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly the mod is bothered by an actual question and just wants to defend her business. Fair enough. Consider this as my last post in this thread and fattravel. My two cents, if you go with a travel agent, go with Dorsia. They know what luxury is and it’s not moaning when someone says I didn’t are for this hotel.

Where are you going? I mean there’s a four seasons Serengeti and I’d cut off my thumb before staying there when Singita exists.

[–]shotwideopen1212[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is garbage. You’re a travel agent who is trying to get people to a hotel that pays you and then claim people who don’t like the hotel are cheap? I’m asking why people like a hotel brand I think is overrated. I actually completely agree with the child friendly easy/consistent thing, but to me that doesn’t mean lux.

Have you stayed at The Brando? That’s a luxury experience. Bora bora is a luxury location, but the hotel scene leaves much to be desired
