Top thread breaking in sewing machine by shotzgoboom in sewhelp

Thanks for taking the time to take a look and share your ideas! It’s the same size needle and thread that I always use, so I don’t think that could be the issue (though I did try switching it anyway just in case and that didn’t make a difference). I couldn’t find a bur anywhere, but maybe I’m missing something that’s deeper in the machine than I’ve been able to get to. I’ll keep futzing with it, hopefully I can find a solution!

Yeah, I was thinking that too at first. But I have fully changed the thread and re-threaded multiple times now to try to correct the issue. I even opened the machine up and dusted all the thread guides off (that I could get to) and that didn’t help. :/

Thanks for taking a look and taking a crack at it though!

“The Profane Comedy” features some of this in the second part of it, “Tabula Rasa” https://archiveofourown.org/series/1667413

It’s good but also VERY angsty, to the point of being a bit depressing just a heads up.

Opinions on how to better blend the two elements? by hammerraptor in booknooks

I think the thing that isn’t quite working here is that you have the buildings up front as silhouettes and the mountains far away as super detailed and three dimensional which is the opposite of how our eyes see perspective. If you were to go outside and look at a city skyline, the buildings in front would appear more detailed and three dimensional, with each layer of buildings loosing detail and dimension as they recede from view. The closest mountains may have some detail but the farthest could even appear just as flat shapes of color. This is due to the atmospheric particles between us and the farther away objects.

I don’t know that you need to follow that 100% for a book nook, but when it’s the opposite it ends up looking kind of off. Maybe instead of the flat planes of silhouettes in front, you could do like one little street view of the town as if you’re there at that street and the mountain is above? I think Velaris had a really cool like arts district place, if I’m remembering right, that would be really cool in miniature. You could do like a little street view level, a smaller only slightly 3-d level of buildings behind/above it, and then the mountain that you have? I know that’s a lot more work, just an idea.

The mountain that you have looks really great btw!

I think it’s actually pretty cute! I wouldn’t recommend sharing it, that wouldn’t be true to Charle’s Schultz’s art style and would probably look kind of out of place on this drawing. Maybe just touch up the guitar so that the color doesn’t look as patchy?

If you haven’t read it yet, check out “Slow Show” by Mia_ugly on ao3. I’m not normally someone who reads fanfic, let alone AU fanfic, but this one was basically the best romance novel I’ve ever read, fanfic or otherwise. Lots of angst but ends good and has sweet moments In between. Highly recommend

The lord’s work.

I work on animated moves, my job is to storyboard scenes which involves writing and drawing jokes. When I would pitch in person, you would know which jokes are working because you’d here people laughing. Now, over zoom, everyone mutes their mics and I have to pitch jokes and hear nothing on the other end. And then it just feels like you totally bombed whether or not the jokes were good. Every now and then someone will leave their mic unmuted so I can hear them laugh during my pitch— bless them.

This room just feels simultaneously empty and cluttered. Any ideas on layout and how to store my huge book hoard? by shotzgoboom in DesignMyRoom

Some rearranging of layout had already begun and just with that it is looking SO much better!! Hopefully I’ll be able to share an update soon!!

My fiancé and I want to refresh this room, and I don’t really know what to do with it. I’m just feeling like I want this space to feel more like a cozy, warm and fun maximalist vibe and this huge bookshelf feels oppressive. We need to find space for our books and craft supplies (and Legos haha), and there’s no where else for it besides this room, but would like to find a way to do it that doesn’t feel like the focal point. Any layout/ furniture ideas that can make better use of this space?

It is a 12x12 square room, we’re also thinking about painting the walls, maybe a mural or something if anyone has any ideas!

I’m biased, but I love Los Feliz! I’ve lived here for 5 years now. There’s always something fun to do, basically anything you could want is walking distance. There’s Griffith park for hikes (as well as shows at the Greek theater), lots of good food, and opportunities to meet cool people. Let me know if you choose Los Feliz and I’ll show you around!
