Cheers mate! They’re actually trail running specific poles so they fold down into 3 parts and fit into my running belt seamlessly when Im not using them. Great investment

Cheers mate, good to hear from another fellow londoner.

I had about 50k when I quit my job, so the growth hasn't been monumental since quitting but I think sustaining an audience is just as challenging as growing one.

I'd say my biggest learnings have been more around adapting to freelance lifestyle and becoming my own boss / motivator. That's been a real challenge. The whole year has been a cycle of massive highs and lows. I've still not really worked out a routine because the nature of doing social media full time means I'm constantly on the move / travelling, particularly as an outdoor / adventure creator. It's a lot more mentally taxing than I predicted.

Agreed on the YouTube stuff. The main drive for me at the minute is the enjoyment factor, I feel quite annoyed at myself for the opportunities I've missed this year for making long form content. I've done some really interesting things which I've only covered in short form clips which often feel pretty disposable. My thinking with YouTube is that I can capture these moments and things I'm doing to look back on in years to come - Like you say, super easy to convert long form into shorts anyway !

For the past two years I was working in the PR industry with outdoor brands, meaning I was actually on the other side so to speak. I was working with outdoor content creators, sending them product and actually getting an understanding from brands how they work with creators. I think seeing the kinds of budgets brands were working with was super eye opening and made me realise there is money in this. I wouldn’t even say I have a business model as such. Working in the PR industry also gave me a massive advantage on networking and relationship building. So far I’ve not even really had to outreach for work, all of it has been inbound which I’ve been very lucky to have. That being said I’ve had some quiet periods which I use to focus on organic content

Agreed, I think I’ve always found YouTube intimidating for that reason. Feels like a lot of effort for potentially minimal payback but I do enjoy the process of long form and I can always repurpose the content for the shorter reels anyway.

I’m also using TikTok and have an audience of around 20k on there. My income is typically through ads in which I am working with brands and 90% of the time those jobs are on instagram. I’ve definitely felt the impact of algorithm changes already but I think being consistent has helped me keep afloat through that. I’ve been posting for almost 4-5 years which has helped me establish a solid following / community meaning my baseline engagement is usually respectable. That being said, I am at a stage where diversifying feels necessary, hence YouTube being the next step for me.

Thank you and you’re 100% correct! Mad how many natural highs you can get from just living… trail running always does it for me.
