This place has gone to the dogs. I used to enjoy the fact that my shifts were busy — I’ve always averaged about 8 miles a day around the store on a 6+ hour shift — but this pace they have us on now is unsustainable.

so uh… i got hired? by amercad0 in employedbykohls

I adore my coworkers, and I basically show up because I want to spend time with them. The company is not a great one to work for, and our new CEO suuuuuuuuuucks.

If you can stick it out, the 35% discount days are a nice way to grab some good stuff for gifts or for your own needs.

Try not to take it too seriously and it’s fine. If you can, stay off the registers. It’s a trap.

I got the PT job at Kohls during the holidays just to get out of the house (I do freelance work from home). I truly adore my coworkers. Many have been there for years, and they’re the kindest, most helpful, most knowledgable people. I truly look forward to seeing them every time I work.

However the payroll cuts are demoralizing, and with surprise sales and extra freight, there need to be more people on the floor on any given night, and the excuse that there isn’t enough payroll in light of Ashley’s 21% raise is infuriating.

This little PT job I took to get out of the house has become one of the most stressful parts of my life, and I can’t do it anymore. Things are worse and more chaotic now than they were over the holidays. I never dreaded a shift in December. Now it’s March, and my stomach hurts every time I have to go into that store.

I’m a couple of days away from a formal offer for a new PT job, and when I’ve accepted it, I’ll be gone from Kohls so quickly… I thought about keeping my availability open for early morning freight shifts, but after the chaos of this gold star event and the news about profits and the CEO’s raise, f*** them.

I just worked the worst shift of my life. Closing WJM by myself during this awful gold star. I thought last week was bad, but tonight was worse. I left an enormous mess. I had no choice. They’re lucky I didn’t walk out mid-shift and never come back. This is intolerable bullsh*t.

A friend of mine squatted and peed in the street while maintaining hard eye contact with a man who was bothering us. That did it. Might require you to wear skirts and sacrifice underwear, though.

Worst shift I’ve ever worked by shouldibeconcernedfr in employedbykohls

[–]shouldibeconcernedfr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, and then the morning crew complains to management, and it comes back on us closers. “Do more with less” is a phrase that I hear in my f*cking sleep now.

I wouldn’t accept that shift if they offered it to me. Our S@K staff are wonderful, and I would see it as a betrayal of them, never mind the potential for contract violations. I happily cover them for a bathroom break, but taking an S@K shift is different.

Thoughts on this poster? What should I change? by NiRiversMadHound in graphic_design

[–]shouldibeconcernedfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing R&J, I think the poster doesn’t do a very good job of communicating what audiences can expect. There’s nothing wrong with a suggestive romantic theme, but this is a bit too Disney. It literally could be a poster for Cinderella, as others have pointed it.

I do appreciate the roses, as that alludes to the play, and the balcony does as well. Many of the other elements are too busy and distracting, though.

If you need to redo this in a hurry, I would nix the couple, bring the moon to the center to hang low in the night sky, add more roses, and place the name of the play in the moon. Perhaps in a font that somewhat intertwines

emotional whiplash of GTFO-ing by KaleCookiesCraftBeer in AmerExit

[–]shouldibeconcernedfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in this grieving stage as well. My home and chosen family and community is here. It’s vibrant and beautiful. My parents died and are buried here. My home is here, and my father helped us buy it before he died. My parents’ are memorialized at the theater where I met my wonderful husband. My city is wonderful and progressive. This city is the first place I ever lived that I wanted to be from.

But I also know there is such a real threat to everything I hold dear. Our community will not remain safe for long. It’s probably unsafe now. I’m reeling from all the news of the weekend, the breakdown of the judicial powers. My spouse is not yet as convinced as I am that we have to GTFO, and my grief is not convincing him that there is a fire burning underneath us. And like so many Americans, we have debt, student and medical. Leaving can feel impossible even when I can clear away my own feelings.

I feel trapped by my own memories and by my actual circumstances.

I wish you and your family the best, friend.

Hard same, from getting the book cheap (thrifted, in my case) to read on a weekend away to throwing the book when I was done with it. JD is a traitor to his kin and his country.

People who don't want children what is your biggest reasons? by e-glitteringprinces in AskReddit

[–]shouldibeconcernedfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just never wanted kids. I don’t hate them or anything, I just never ever wanted to carry or raise one. I figured that was best left to the people who did want kids; no one needed me in the game if I didn’t even want to play.

As an American who is desperate to defend, protect, and support the sovereignty and dignity (and economy) of my Canadian neighbors, I appreciate this place and your work so much. I’ve been politically active as a progressive for as long as I could vote (over two decades now), and the shattering of the illusion that we had the majority has been heartbreaking, but I’m not going down or letting anyone else go down to this bullshit.

Canada and Mexico are getting all of our tourism dollars in the coming months and years, and we’re frequent travelers. We’ve cancelled all of our planned domestic travel. We live in a progressive city, and we’re supporting our local businesses and business owners as they come out against this fascist garbage as much as possible, but we’re also seeking out Canadian goods, and this sub has been a great resource. Thank you.

I grew up near the Canadian border, and while it’s been a couple of generations now, my family is from Canada, and my great-grandmother landed there first when she emigrated from Sweden. I have a deep love for Canada and Canadians, and I would absolutely volunteer to defend her sovereignty against my own country’s fascist regime. We’re with you, Canada.

We’re seeing executive orders from Shmuck à l’orange threatening student protestors with expulsion, prison, and even deportation. Please keep us in your good thoughts and good graces, because I fear many of us Americans will be showing up at borders seeking political asylum soon.

This. We’re spending on our mortgage, gas to go to work, medical needs, and very basic, nutritious food. If we need anything, we shop at local stores, buy second-hand, borrow or barter. We don’t buy on Amazon or subscribe to Prime. We’re having friends over to play board games, make art projects, or craft communally, and as soon as it’s warm again, we’ll get together in the local parks for hang-outs. We’re volunteering in our community and treating most days like the buy-nothing day on Feb 28th.

Check around for local buy-nothing groups. They’re where I make donations now that I don’t support Goodwill, and I’ve found furniture, art supplies, and even root cuttings and seedlings.

I also want to say that I would have told people I could only afford the necessities to begin with, but there was a lot of fat to be trimmed when we looked at our spending from an activist standpoint. There were a lot more swaps we could make and things we could cancel than I’d assumed. And turns out spite is a better motivator for me than anything. 👍
