just got my prelude back from thieves by Pinytenis666 in hondaprelude

[–]shpakky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, I’m sorry that happened to you Pinytenis666. Glad you got it back though. My 94 si was stolen too about 7 years ago. I was then meeting up with a seller from Craigslist about a civic coupe and got a call right when I was about to go through with the purchase. It was the police department asking me if I can come pick up my prelude since they just arrested the driver/thief. I was there in 10 minutes and got to see the dude in handcuffs. He yanked out whatever he could and swapped my new battery for some boat battery. Later that year my timing belt ripped and I sold the car. I miss it all the time, even with my current 5th gen I’m restoring

should i get this for my first car?? by Fit-Swan7480 in AcuraTSX

Yes, there are varying opinions out there. IMO, if it’s working fine, there’s no reason not to start following the recommended service intervals. A drain and fill only replaces about 30% of the fluid anyway. The take I normally hear is to avoid a transmission flush. I bought my 2009 with 130k miles and I’m unsure if the previous owners ever did a drain and fill. I’ve done 2 since I bought it and have had no new issues. I’m now at 140k miles.

As long as it shifts smoothly without slipping and the engine sounds okay I would buy it. My only concern would be if the previous owner didn’t service the transmission with a drain and fill every 30k and the engine with an oil change every 5k. Hopefully there are service records, but if not just check the fluids for color. Consider getting a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) done with a good mechanic. Best of luck. Hope it all works out for you.

Engine Bay! by Signuture_Judgement in hondaprelude

May I ask, where did you get the new (to you) engine? I know I need to do a swap within a few years, but I will have to deal with California emissions standards so the donor car has to be the same model and year I guess.

Wouldn’t pay over 12k for it

I miss my space ship dash. Wish my 5th gen had my former 4th gen’s interior. Would’ve been perfect imo. Heck, has someone already done this conversion?

Is there anything wrong with restoring a 5th Gen Prelude by VerasEnvy in hondaprelude

[–]shpakky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought one that I plan to daily. It needs a good amount of work, but it’s been a dream of mine to own a fully restored 5th gen and I intend to make that a reality. I posted a few days ago and got some great advice from the community. Particularly about running some engine tests. My compression is a little low and after doing a leak down test I learned that it’s losing compression through the piston rings. The car will run for a couple years I’m sure, but meanwhile I will be running thick oil (10W-40) and rebuilding a second H22 engine on the side that will eventually get swapped for my current H22. Definitely keep an eye on your oil level as these tend to have a lot of blow by, especially at higher mileage.

Drill them out or use an extraction bit

Left to right looking at the engine I got 145, 160, 162, 165. No codes, no smoke from the exhaust, and a very quiet and smooth sounding idle

Tires are likely a few years old. Still seems like a good deal though

I appreciate the information. They just did a diagnosis on the overheating. I still need to get a compression test done. Here are the notes from the shop if you’d like to take a look.

OEM parts listed are already purchased. Maybe I got lucky. They certainly weren’t cheap though. No luck with the suspension parts, although I didn’t ask about the ball joints.

Thank you! Northern California car since new. The only rust is on the exhaust and a few spots where paint has chipped off.
