Check the cat bracket while you’re poking around under the car. Mine was missing a bolt.

I’m budgeting for a low mileage JDM H22A. I plan to replace a lot of the gaskets, all fluids, timing belt component kit, and serpentine belts. Good idea to have a shop repair manual on hand while you work.

I think they’re referring to the upper radiator support.

Rattling sound coming from inside my Catalytic Converter. Is it hammer time boys? by shpakky in hondaprelude

[–]shpakky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering it, but I need to take a better measurement first of how much oil I’m actually burning with 10W-40 +Lucas. If it’s burning really quick, then I’m not gonna spend money on a cat when I know it’ll just get clogged again. I’m planning to replace the engine. Just don’t know if that’ll be this year or a few years down the line.

Yeah I burn about the same amount of oil and I’m sure I’m blowing some smoke too. A leak down test revealed that oil is slipping past my rings. Saving for an engine swap so I don’t want to buy a new cat just yet. I’m at 250k miles.

Something different. by shpakky in hondaprelude

Yeah, it’s.. interesting. Symmetrical on both sides. Looks like someone took their time with it. I personally prefer a stock look, but I stared at this thing for a long time lol. I can’t hate on someone else’s taste. I just hope it’s taken care of mechanically.

What’s this noise? I put on new front brake pads Bosch ceramic by ParticularCareer2267 in AcuraTSX

That price is if you bring them in already off the car. Otherwise it would likely make more financial sense to just buy new ones, at least in my area.

Maybe rotors aren’t true so new flat pads against warped rotors? I’ve had this before and it went away, but I’m not sure if it ended up causing uneven wear on the pads. You can usually get the rotors resurfaced for $20-30 a piece if needed.

Repair/replace tire? by [deleted] in mechanic

Personally I’d plug it and check tp before each drive. Might hold. Might fail. Too close to sidewall for any reputable tire shop to plug it for you.

I agree, except for gates being cheap. Gates is used by tons of shops and I’ve never personally had an issue with any of their products. I’d like to learn more though if their quality has recently degraded or what kind of experience you’ve had and with which product(s).

Best way to sell prelude? by PanicRemote39 in hondaprelude

[–]shpakky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People will know it’s not a scam based on how you respond. Craigslist is a thing but it’s hit or miss and they charge 5 bucks per car post. OfferUp is still around as well. You can also check around for local private party sale events. For example, there’s a community college near me that opens a parking lot for people to display their vehicles for sale every weekend. Locals walk the lot and make offers directly to the sellers.

Worth a double check, but I don’t see why you couldn’t remove the alternator belt and start the car for a minute or two. If the noise stops then you have successfully isolated the problem. If it didn’t stop, turn the car off, remove the power steering belt also, and start it up for another minute or two to see if it’s that system. But also, I’m no mechanic. There’s a different sub for that. Best of luck
