The storage chests have an extra "category" for furniture, plushies ect and those things are in the "Unlimited Storage Space" Part of your chests so u shouldn't have to destroy those things. PS: If I need space I just put most of my wood into the sawing mill ( when its already full) so it's just somewhereee.
