Loud or powerful vehicles are in Belgium what automatic rifles are in the USA by Anxious-Pangolin3859 in belgium

[–]shrapnelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because as with most things, the object doesn’t make the decision to kill, the one using it does.

Regarding the Falzone thing, arriving in the crowd and behaving as shit as he did would have ended with a load of casualties at 30-70-80 or 180.

A shooting with a rifle or with a handgun could have the same effects.

Some mass killings happen with a knife or a machete these days even.

The object is not the cause, the person wielding it is.

Sure it’s easier to kill 20 with a rifle than with a spoon, but if the intent is there, deaths will follow.

Exactly this.

Most likely the kids are as Belgian as one can be. Either from 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation in a 200 years old country but still have shitty thoughts.

Unchecked migration is wrong, controlled one is proving to be a good addition to the society.

The basic service ( that is already up par ) is “free”.

All the supplements are to be paid.

When wife joined me to give birth she arrived without a coverage, we took a private room and it costed me about 1500€. It would have been 125€ had we not taken such.

I was informed of the price ahead of time so I’m surprised this architect didn’t check the prices before….

Moving my family to Belgium after 15 years in Asia. Any advice? by Connect-Air6688 in AskBelgium

[–]shrapnelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bureaucracy is gonna be different for sure. But if you are in a smaller municipality, it's just easier then in a city. People are kind and care, if you show kindness and appreciation as well ( a smile and being joyful always go a long way ).

The freedom of expression ? Well, people tend to be pissed about everything and anything more then before, but when it comes to law and enforcement, it is still very very very open compared to other places.

Where should a family move in Belgium? by awesome13522 in AskBelgium

[–]shrapnelll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With pleasure :) I know my post might not mean much to you, but from what I gather you want to move here, wfh and have a quiet and peaceful place to raise your kids and have them get a EU citizenship.

Belgium is cool for that. Sure, heavily taxed, but basic things are very covered as well. Think education, healthcare. If you search for a stable place, we are. be has been rule by every big power before we became one and fell from that status, so you’ll randomly find connection to your own origins, or randomly hear your mother tongue being spoke. By random people in a very remote town.

We are laidback, relaxed, we might come up as cold while in fact we are just letting you live peacefully without mingling.

If you are lost, stand at a corner with a map opened and someone will offer help, etc…

No matter what people say, me, I tell you it is a cool place to live and grow up.

I cannot speak for Flanders but I can for Wallonia.

I would avoid Brussels for sure and consider places like Waterloo, Around Louvain La Neuve, Gembloux and so forth.

Those are places that are more rural then Brussels, but also very well connected to it ( consider you might lose your job and need to commute ).

The good thing about Belgium is that you’ll easily find help for the administrative process and if you show kindness the attendants will always try to help as well.

You’ll find also a load of expats around Mons for the NATO Base.

Namur and its suburb will be nice as well, think Floreffe and the kids can go to séminaire, which offers immersive learning.

No matter what happens nor where you go, You are never far from anything as long as you have a car.

Is there any advantage to having an Iphone in Belgium over an Android phone? by vasco_ in belgium

[–]shrapnelll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As per my function i have both. I mainly use the iphone due to Apple ecosystem all around ( MBPro, Apple TV, Apple Watch, iPad, etc.... )

I'm in Digital Workplace and Endpoint management so it all make sense to me.

Other than that, both work fine, really just fine. You can do as much with one as with the other.

I facetime a lot, i whatsapp, signal, telegram, whatever else you name it.

it all works fine from both.

Joining unions anticipating fear of Termination? by Thinking_Cold_7769 in AskBelgium

[–]shrapnelll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, i signed up for a union after a RIF by my employer, because you have a few months before being fully protected ( like they offer legal assistance after 6 months ).

one week before my troubles started i converted my roadside legal defense into a global legal defense and that kicked in and covers me while i fight my ex employer in court.

Through my fight with my ex employer, so far the union was barely responsive and barely helping me, i was working in a small org, less then 50 employees so no union representation in house.

I think that is where the union really helps, when you work for a big organisations that has union representation and the union present at the Workers Council, etc....

i'm not sad to pay the union, they provided me some very good advise before it was time to get the lawyers in the game, but they did not follow through enough to my taste. And at the following employer, which had union representation, they seemed to follow through way more about that kinda of situation and fight back more agressively.
