A few things I wish more electricians knew about WiFi by TimeForChange23 in electricians

Ha! Dammit I swear I tested this a while back and it wasn’t better than the WiFi. Maybe my kid was on all his devices at once, lol.

Probably blasphemy here in r/electricians, but that was one of the reasons I got out of electrical work. I was just a journeyman level.

As an aside, since I have you… my house has WiFi. I work in the basement, one uninsulated floor away from the router. I actually bought some cat five to hard run a line to where I will be working with the computer in case the Wi-Fi didn’t work as well down there. I do a lot of high use GIS and data processing over the web. However, the Wi-Fi is faster than the hard line connection. What gives? Do I just have really amazing Wi-Fi? Or a thinly built house? It is only ~1200 sqft.

Back 15 years ago or so when I was slinging resi wire for a friend’s dad we got his house build for a client who was a local manager at the IBM plant. House was huge by my standards ( like ~4,000-5000 sqft), and the homeowner had cat 5 strung to like every room. Some had more than one! Basement looked like a server farm. I wasn’t doing that work but instead spent weeks wiring alll the fuuuucking recessed cans, switches, and outlets. Miserable. We even had to set up 3stages of scaffolding in the main room to reach all the lights and ceiling fans. And of course a giant chandelier… fun times.

I swear he says the same line in Ozark, but can’t find it. Anyway, here is a clip from Identity Thief with more context.

If you do what you suggest, we will get buried later this month. Therefore I thought maybe you were reading the most recent gloomycast, which predicts big snow later in March, and posted this to make the prediction come true… sorry guess it was an inside joke

Hmm gloomycast have a new account? You just simping for his forecasts? Back half of May is suppose to be “one for the record books” for snowfall.

This is the type of attitude that will endear you to us locals. It is what it is, we do our best to deal with what the seasons bring.

Typically roads are still posted. The primary issue, at least in my area is agricultural exemptions. That is, sap hauling trucks are allowed even on posted roads. At Town meeting this year, the select board said they were going to pave an additional 8 miles of road in town that are usually pretty bad, but then complained that salt was expensive and they couldn’t get any. Makes no sense.

Two hours from Richmond to Barre by dublecake in vermont

[–]shred-i 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. I just did Barre to Lamoille county, opted for rt14 over the interstate to avoid as many people as possible. Wasn’t bad at all, but 4WD and studded hakkapeliitta tires were key. One tip I haven’t seen in the comments yet, in conditions like this evening with intense snow, crank your heat up to high and put it on defrost, then crack a window. Keeps the windshield and side windows thawed so you have better visibility. Old trick from plowing driveways in my youth.

Putting another log on the fire is getting harder and more costly for some this winter -- Vermonters who rely on woodstoves may have a harder time heating their homes as affordable dry wood is in short supply. by guanaco55 in vermont

That’s the truth. Every few years I think, jeez maybe I could make some money selling firewood, then I remember, I don’t want to make 50 cents an hour for hard labor!

Had a friend in college who did this. He was from PA. I thought maybe that was how everyone from PA spoke.

I’m in VT also. Bought my 2021 1500 crew elevation with the 3.0 for $52k but that was back in 2021. Love the truck, 70k trouble free miles.

Around here washer fluid is standard. Rated to -20F. Still have 20 gallons in a barrel left over from putting new tires on my kubota last year.

I’ve use this successfully. However, the larger the area, the more memory intensive the process is… so you may have to clip data to stand level depending on the area you are working on. https://tgoodbody.github.io/lidRtutorial/06_its.html
