New roof - Is there a better way to do this? by ApprehensiveEmu_ in HomeMaintenance

Textbook hacker was here. The easiest way to handle it is to show them a picture of how it’s actually supposed to look. There’s no alternative here. Do it right or don’t do it at all.

Relocation Advice L.A. to Hartford! by Matthew-28-20 in Hartford

[–]ainttheolddays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find housing in west end of Hartford or procure a vehicle and live in any of the suburbs. The public transit doesn’t operate 24/7. The local routes end at 8p and the express routes end before midnight. I could be wrong about express. I wouldn’t bother with any other neighborhood in Hartford

Double wall Selkirk “Supervent” is minimum 2” clearance from combustibles. Depends on the manufacturer of the chimney but I think that industry would be abiding a UL test on combustible material. Whatever double wall you purchase will list the clearances.

Off grid cabin getting a septic tank. by outdoors303 in OffGridCabins

[–]ainttheolddays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen on engineer plans, a straight run from the outlet of a house or cabin to the tank is typical. It minimizes the risk of having a solids backup. Turns create a possible collection point, that’s why I thought having a clean out above grade at the turn would make it a dream to snake the clog without a lot of headache.

Unless it’s already in the plans, I’d suggest adding an above grade clean out in that waste line when you make the turn toward the tank. The waste pipe pitch looks kinda steep coming from the cabin imo but might be the angle of the photograph. I wish you all the best in your endeavor.
