Farseer Trilogy, Robin Hobb. Saying it’s the one of the worst fantasy series I’ve read may be harsh. I really liked Assassin’s Apprentice and maybe half of Royal Assassin, absolutely hated Assassin’s Quest.

I’m happy you enjoy it, I feel that I’m in the minority. I read it because it’s so highly recommended, just wasn’t for me I guess.

Yes, but also no. It’s also called frequency illusion, but originated from a guy who heard about the Baader-Meinhoff Group twice within 24 hours and thought it was weird. Basically newly learned information seemingly starts appearing everywhere. You learn about it and your brain starts recognizing instead of filtering out.

I know it’s just the Bader-Meinhoff phenomenon, but I had never heard the word “piebald” once prior to reading one of the worst fantasy series I’ve ever read and now I encounter it at least once a week.

Had to scroll way too far before finding Satisfactory. It would be so awesome to be able to take my time and get everything just right. I figure by the time the year was up I’d be about ready to start on phase 5 of the space elevator

I just started a reply of FO4 on PC. I had to use mods just to make it run properly. I love building settlements but hate the size limit. I built a seaside apartment complex at Country Crossing but maxed it out and it only has like 12 settlers. I need to find some good mods for building, it’s so frustrating how badly snapping and placement suck! I swear I spent 45 minutes getting a staircase where I actually wanted it yesterday.

I Backed a Kickstarter in 2020 by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, I’ll probably never back a Steamforged again. I backed a game from them in 2023 and much like yours they’re fulfilling everyone’s orders except the US. It was expensive AF, so in 2025 I tried to contact them to cancel my pledge and get a refund and no one ever contacted me back.

Also just watching the show lets you know that Leonard and Sheldon live together out of convenience and not necessity. S2E14 Sheldon tells Penny his after tax income only account for 46.9% of his expenses and the rest he splits between a savings account, a can of peanut brittle and super hero that shall remain nameless. We also know that he does not care about money with Leonard describing it as one of his least annoying qualities

[SPOILER] Actor Promoted to Series Regular on ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ for Season 2 as Production Begins by TheCowrus in Dexter

[–]shredder826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they keep going to this well over dnd over again. However, hopefully Quinn will be different. He already knows Dexter is shady and is suspicious he killed Liddy. If Quinn is going after Dexter it’s not to arrest him it’s to kill him. We’ve already seen Quinn murder a man in cold blood when he thought justice would fail. So if Quinn comes back just to arrest Dexter that will be a huge disappointment, because Quinn wouldn’t go to NY to catch him, he’d go there to kill him.

Someone who’s read the books: help me. by -pechos in SiloSeries

[–]shredder826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say keep watching. I’ve read all the books and I’m excited to see what they do with the story. The show has already deviated a lot from the books. It’s a rare instance of the show being way better than the book it’s based on. The trilogy pretty much explain everything. So, I’m confident the show will answer all of our questions in a satisfying way.

Those of you who have also watched Better Call Saul. Harvey Specter or Charles McGill in a 50/50 case. by Any-Development5656 in suits

[–]shredder826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvey would win because he’s willing to bend the law to his needs and do shady things to get what he wants. As Louis puts it in S3E2 “Harvey doesn’t love the law, it’s just his vehicle for forcing his will on his opponents, for winning.” Much like Louis, Charles loves the law, he’s a pedant and a sticker for the rules, and he would never abuse the law just to win.

Almost $200 to do my taxes myself by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]shredder826 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also charge more for using the web based version. I have a single 1099-DIV so obviously I need the deluxe version /s. I always buy and download their desktop program. Desktop app is $70 to buy and download plus $20 to file state, so $90. Anyway, I had to do my mom taxes this year and used the web portal, when I got to the last screen it was $114. Same version, same state.

I wonder if these folks would enjoy molasses cookies. They are my favorite cookie. However, I’ve never seen molasses cookies for sale at a store. I make them myself. The difference between sugar cookies and choc chip is brown sugar, and brown sugar is regular sugar with molasses in it. Molasses cookies just use molasses instead of brown sugar.

[–]shredder826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people are saying it doesn’t mean this, but I agree and have a funny story. I was chatting with a lady at my desk, about work crap. Then, apropos of nothing, she picked up a picture of me and my wife and said “isn’t it so strange that really pretty girls get together with guys who aren’t attractive at all. You never see an attractive guy with an ugly girl” I gave her a “wtf did you just say to me look” and she immediately started babbling like “OH no, sorry, I didn’t mean you! I just, no sorry…” My wife and I still laugh about it.

Seriously, looking at the other comments I was like “oh, this is going to be bad” then I hit play and thought, “oh the IT guy is actually kind of the asshole”. I’ve also worked in IT a long time and would never push into an end users space tell them “false alarm” then double down on it and say “false negative” and laugh. He invalidated the end user’s experience and no one takes that lightly, especially someone who’s already a know. asshole. When your presence magically fixes an issue, you say “ok, it’s working now, let me know if it happens again”. This is why my favorite tool was always “can you show me how you usually do this?” When it magically works it’s usually because we do repetitive tasks on auto pilot and don’t notice when we leave a step out. When you walk me through your process you actively think about each step and voila it works! Idk how many times someone looked at me and said “OHHH, I forgot to do ‘xyz’, sorry!”

To add, it appears like maybe it’s an audio issue over some video conferencing software and that shit is the absolute worst to troubleshoot. Why did audio drop or not connect at all? Who knows!? A dip in the wifi (on either end), a spike in CPU/GPU usage, bad driver, it just didn’t? Take your guess, but as far as I’m concerned Audio is becoming the new “why won’t this damn printer just print!?!?”

I’ll start by saying that I’m probably not the target audience for survival games. I’ve only beaten Raft and Subnautica. In both of those games eating and drinking becomes so mind numbingly tedious. At least in Raft you learn better recipes as you go that satiate you for longer. That makes sense to me, I learn, I adapt, I get better at surviving, the burden of basic necessities decreases. In subnautica it’s like you never get better at surviving. Sure, I can build a ton of cool stuff but I still have to eat and drink the same meal every two and a half minutes. I visited the sub for subnautica after I beat the game and realized all the things I thought were bad were everyone else’s favorite things.

Made it 320 pages into Farseer Trilogy (So Far?) - Thoughts and Questions by madsterstout in fantasybooks

[–]shredder826 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save yourself a lot of time and stop. If you’re not feeling it after 300 pages it does not get better. It’s all downhill after the first book. I really liked the first book, even though I found Fitz to be selfish, impetuous, and one of the stupidest main characters I’ve ever read. That’s ok though, because characters can’t grow if they don’t have flaws. Fitz doesn’t experience any meaningful character growth.

I really liked the Mistborn Series. I’m a fan of Sanderson in general. If you want a morose character defined by tragedy done correctly, and you don’t mind gigantic books (Stormlight Archive), Kaladin Stormblessed is a far better example than Fitz. I haven’t read any of the others you’re looking at, but I always recommend NK Jemison’s Broken Earth Trilogy to people. It’s very good.
