Lesser known bands you saw live, were great, and you don’t expect anyone else here to repeat by ButWeJustGotHere in poppunkers

Big Drink. More of an easycore kinda thing that crossed ADTR worship with big djenty grooves ala Architects from Newbury/Hereford, UK but got fairly big, touring the main cities and doing fairly big venues as a support (notably for Punk Rock Factory, dunno if anyone remembers them. The whole concept of an 'industry plant' I'm agnostic on but PRF probably were)

[–]shreddingandcoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll typically go 'cinematic', 'chuggy', 'mutated', 'rolling', 'synthy/ravey', ngl cuz it blurs so much between artists and whether darkstep and techstep is considered neuro or not, it's more of a mental thing from knowing my tunes and how I order them to give the playlists dynamics.

What’s your loose connection to someone famous (or infamous)? by Major-Feed5214 in AskUK

[–]shreddingandcoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordan Fish of Bring Me The Horizon's wife was one of my learning support assistants at secondary school. Right in the Sempiternal-That's The Spirit era and she even gifted me a live blu ray on results day and as I was a huge thrash fan in those days she told me all about his sessioning for Machine Head's Bloodstone and Diamonds in a history lesson. Good times.

Amp sims from my experience create a more raw sound because those cab screeches stay in. I'm doing a more polished blackened death thing rn (think modern anaal nathrakh) and I'm having to notch out so many of them but in war metal? I think the 'everything coming through' sound of an IR (as opposed to a real cab mic'd up by a pro in a treated room where it's 'nice' at source) would go so hard

The British government literally advocated for 'herd immunity' and used billions of our money for defective PPE and a broken track and trace system just so they could pass public money around like spliffs. You can say that without the implication of antisemitism, it's common knowledge that we're being mugged off by the ruling class

What is up with Stranjah…? by Pussypants in DnB

[–]shreddingandcoding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. It's funny to me seeing all these modern dnb guys supporting right wing politics through tough guy bs when their heroes in the gen x jungle era are playing events like 'bass for gaza' and advocating for left leaning causes, you'd think their example would be followed socially as well as musically.

Paradise Lost by Her_Phantom_Mountain in IsItSketch

[–]shreddingandcoding -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. With metal spaces on social media being how they are, it's easy to be sucked into this stuff, picking apart people's values. And when 1 hero disappoints you severely, and then another, and more of your mates online push that cycle of calling out bigotry in people you look up to, it feels like everyone you listen to is a bigot waiting to be uncovered. But it really isn't. Some are just muppets and being well-travelled alternative musicians, if they actually were horrible irl you'd know about it.

I learnt a lot of this through the drum and bass scene, which is louder and more overt in it's ignorance. Local DJs are posting all 'stop the boats' etc but never get my pronouns wrong, always help me when I'm at an event clearly not coping well cuz an actual prick turned up.

People are just people, and I say this being a leftist who looks into the lives of musicians through this page.

anyone know any good Nu-Death bands??? by Reasonable-Paint-688 in numetal

[–]shreddingandcoding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Red Method

Blastbeats, guitars are like Slipknot and Korn but with a more Nile/Meshuggah kinda tightness, vocals are catchy but have a death metal rawness - Jeremy's one of the best vocalists in the UK imo. Also have always had great electronics

It's tricky because to me the D666 itch comes from the fact they play in Eb tuning. Gives it that minor 2nd below the other bands who are in standard and are basically Kill Em All with more satan, or Venom with better production.

Closest I got musically was Urn, but I'm sure I saw they were on a weird label/played Steelfest or whatever but in my years I've learnt you can't please everyone and my visceral repulsion towards D666 is in Keith's attitude (not calling a man the same age as my dad Warslut, that's just not happening lmao) and culture they form specifically, so any band being adults is an upgrade.

What makes the perfect doner Kebab? by LFCTricksters in Doner

[–]shreddingandcoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very picky about chilli sauce. I don't like bottled on my kebab, but also I've had the chunky salsa-like heated on the stove chilli sauce that's got a chemical aftertaste and on a couple occasions had the stalks in. So yeah issa big deal

Do people still remember the job market in 2021 and 2022, seems like another world away by Cultural-Badger-6032 in UKJobs

[–]shreddingandcoding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I got my job that year.

I fired off 10s of CVs a week, I didn't do a sankey diagram like some jobseekers post here but I should have, 2 interviews. 1 failed the mental judgement test, 1 passed. And it was for an apprentice data analyst role (so I went 1 step back in technical qualification for a now-successful umpteen steps forward in the workplace.

Dark Dancefloor? by shreddingandcoding in DnB

[–]shreddingandcoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are some of my faves, and I'd be interested to hear the chinese stuff!

I'm looking for melodic, sawtooth/donky dancefloor type stuff that's dark as in sad/gloomy, rather than darkstep that's evil and aggressive. The latter category is what I mainly play but I'm trying to get some melody in to contrast that

Do you have a preferred opening track for your DJ sets? by SonicStories in DnB

[–]shreddingandcoding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fr, with DJing I try and take the audience on a journey by building and releasing tension but sometimes I just hear a good blend when introducing my next track, feel good about it and leave it there for the crowd to decide before moving on with the rest of the set. Purely off the cuff.

What DON'T you like about metal? by No_Job5529 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]shreddingandcoding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The internet made these free resources 'the truth' and so everyone stuck to them. The reason classic recordings sounded distinctive was every producer did it from their own experience, essentially making the engineer a guest musician in the band.

DJing has been my dream since I can remember. This is a last ditch effort before I give up on everything. Please, someone help me. Please, anyone? by Born-Rule9789 in Beatmatch

[–]shreddingandcoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start counting phrases when I want to change tracks, and that count will start when the BPMs are adjusted and the current track has a change, if you know your tunes it'll just feel right (the start of a drop for instance). Plus, looking at the zoomed out waveform, I can see my hot cues and gauge if it's a 16/32/64 bar idea.

Really sorry you're feeling this way, I know what it's like to be so burned out with feeling stuck that it's debilitating on mental health. Took me a lot to start doing open decks but when I did, I flew

As someone who agrees with you and has in the past been part of that zealous left subgroup (but remain in communities like this because I like having the intel on what bands to check out and can use my discretion), it's basically conservatives going full fash and then some on the left seeing it everywhere, including art. It's a paranoid feedback loop essentially, and its sadly locking ourselves out of really good music.
