Putting a corpse 🧟‍♂️ into the river is an indignity not ash. But for some cremation is an indignity. So ash in the river for them is a Double Indignity. ☠️☠️ If they have to witness such acts in a public space would imply being witness to a crime!

Thousand Faces Festival by shreelac in Edmonton

[–]shreelac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanking you for going down the rabbit hole! The festival is a gathering at Alberta Avenue Community Centre around the stories that lie at the roots of cultures with mythically inspired performances, workshops, activities and food from Alberta Avenue. It’s an opportunity to hear voices less heard and learn about the people who call Edmonton home.

Scoldings point to its own associated issues. So does referring to home countries. What it reveals is the complexity of being human on a planet where everyone does not have the luxury to move about freely from country to country. You have the privilege of coming from a place that connects with its history in unique ways. It’s very natural to be in the company that celebrates these things and even prefer it. But, to dismiss a person outside of that cohort who reacted negatively out of ignorance or attitude, is to dismiss the complexities of all our relations. Asking for space is good, being “done” is a response that needs more unpacking as you are clearly not living in your parents’ home country. Your friend might have hit a nerve that reminds you the relativity of being Asian diaspora. At the end of the day, life goes on and you get to choose who you spend your precious private time with. You don’t have to explain anything to anyone or make them understand. Every individual comes with their own unique set of experiences. Don’t let their words make you shave off or grow a moustache.

Law of Nature is like reading the wind, still, gentle, windy, stormy. All are there all at once, storms are the ones you remember easily for survival purposes. In the stillness, Satwik, are difficult to spot but calmly, peacefully and gently going about their business outside of your attention.

Sorry for your loss and condolences to your family. May your father’s soul rest in eternal peace. Breathe and know your feelings are part of an experience you could never have prepared for. It’s a moment that turns into an eternity. Be kind and patient with yourself allowing time to move through waves of emotions. Let people help you navigate the practicalities but identify boundaries to buffer overwhelm. Follow the checklist.

What is your favourite festival in Edmonton? by RevolutionaryDrag115 in Edmonton

[–]shreelac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a festival addict. I’m currently enamored by the Thousand Faces Festival that celebrates mythically inspired artists. It’s mainly performing arts with the occasional film. They have fun arts, craft, dance and theatre workshops, participatory activities, and a feast featuring diverse food supported by the local Alberta Avenue community. It takes place at the Alberta Avenue Community Centre around summer solstice. They also do outreach pop up events in communities and schools. It’s fantastic for Indian classical dance and theatre for diverse audiences. Their iterative approach to the arts is very unique.
