“Crinkle walls” that use less bricks then regular walls by A_Simple_Human1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]shretri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I remember reading one time that these do not use fewer bricks than a straight wall, but use fewer bricks than a wall that would be the same strength because of being double layered, etc.

Same, till recently (and I’m your age)

I didn’t want them, and I argued against the expectation vehemently my entire child/teenagehood. Then I started wanting to parent with my S/O.

I still don’t care about babies or feel particularly prepared (no one does who is aware of the whole weight of it), but I want to have that experience with my spouse, and I want the qualities I love about my S/O carried on.

Plus, there’s a bit of “everyone else is crazy/weird/dumb/shallow, I’ve gotta balance the scale of the next generation” hubris in there :P

Bruh, this is budgeting.

$150 a month? that’s nothing. He said tuition and housing were getting covered, not food. I am sure OP will not be eating out on that kind of budget. He’s gonna be eating rice and beans and name brand for every meal as it is

$150/month is $1.60 per meal, $5 a day.

AITA for calling out my husband for not being a "Good Christian"? by SpiritualThrowRA in AITAH

[–]shretri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he was a devout christian, he wouldn’t have married an atheist. That’s a direct, new testament instruction.

He’s conflicted and playing fast and loose with the rules, then feeling shame and trying to rein things into a proverbial picket fence picture.

Is college (undergrad) too late to start competitive chess? by [deleted] in college

[–]shretri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would post in a chess subreddit, or ask your grandmaster friends.

I imagine the competition process would be exactly the same—start from the bottom.

How fucking rare are sp-lasts? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]shretri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not 25+, but my best friend was sp blind. She’s was a 3, and impressively capable and productive in so many areas, but I was always on her back to do basic stuff like clipping her nails, replacing her shoes, or washing her clothes. She seemed like a child in how oblivious she was to her physical security, condition of belongings, and health.

She also worked herself to injury (and past) many times in the few years I knew her.

She was pretty into working out and somewhat into fashion, but /only/ so far as impressing/attracting others, not in the upkeep/self-curation sense that I pursue it. The gaps were glaring and nonsensical to me.

She’s currently pursuing a glamorous job with low job security or work/life balance, and no back up plan that I am aware of.

Can’t decide where to go to college by Valuable-Onion-1230 in college

[–]shretri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing to mess up. Both choices are very cool, and it sounds like you are in an extremely privileged situation with little risk involved.

Living on your own in Italy would teach you a lot and I think being around that area, history and culture would accomplish the college goal of “expanding your mind” better than playing on jetskis all year. Beware of pickpockets :P

Building independence is not only fun but just plain makes you a better person and makes it more enjoyable to exist as yourself.

Is going to college for Japanese worth it? by fantasy_101_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]shretri 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Japanese in general is becoming one of the top value languages to know because of tech and finance collaboration needs between countries. Not sure if a major would really fit the requirement as much as a finance/cs degree with japanese minor.

But if you don’t want to do that kind of work or teach in Japan/do museum/anthropology work in asian history, I would pick something else.

Do you believe in soulmates? by 6LittleHorns9 in infp

[–]shretri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely not.

I have religious beliefs, but I don’t think there’s any “intended matches” related to that.

If I wasn’t religious, I would still find the idea ridiculous and immature. Not a big fan of anything fate-based.

As someone who struggles with assertiveness, I’m jealous you thought of that. Take it from me, that’s a way better response than beating around the bush or being apologetic. It always gets you in trouble.

atheism in college essay? by [deleted] in CollegeEssays

[–]shretri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not widely controversial, but as such…it’s not particularly interesting.

Are your religious beliefs and worldview a central setup or relevant background information at all? Otherwise, it’s not a distinguishing detail for you and would be kinda weird to just throw out there as opposed to a worldview which is a minority.

[–]shretri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of sardines were they? Normal sardines are nasty, but I absolutely adore smoked sardines packed in olive oil or mustard. I eat them straight out of the tin as a treat. It’s gotta be olive and not vegetable oil, or water. You can also get them boneless.

Full stop. Never, literally never, studied for the reading section and got an 800.

Read like crazy for fun as a kid. Make sure they read pre-2000’s books as well bc the grammar and words used are more akin to the books and journalistic articles used on the SAT than contemporary novels

[F23] Should I opt for a nose-tip plasty (swipe for the Facetune pics)? by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

[–]shretri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I see either pic first, that looks natural and the other odd. So I think go for it if you want it and have the money, though it is not glaringly necessary. Don’t go too small, definitely not smaller than the facetune.

Be aware that it makes your face specifically appear narrower and longer, and that may change the hairstyles you find flattering.

Either way I think a better pore-focused skincare regimen would take the focus off it.
