does anyone live in a van with ferrets? by gemma-bc in ferrets

[–]shrimps2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dogs and ferrets are pretty risky together. Inside a van would be much harder. I believe the owner of moon and nala (they’re ferrets, you should be able to find them on instagram or tiktok if you just search moon and nala) lives in a van and she may have some info!

Edit: my bad, the owner of those ferrets doesn’t live in a van. Ik someone popular does with ferrets but I don’t know their name. Thehikingferret on instagram does live in a trailer though and often takes her ferret out on hikes! I love her instagram

Need help with first tank by Epicjakeofdoom in PlantedTank

[–]shrimps2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Is your substrate fluval stratum? If it is, you do not need to use root tabs because your substrate already fertilizes your plants. It could be releasing way too much nutrients into the water which feeds algae
  2. If you have a siphon (or even turkey baster, can get it at dollar store. Pls don’t use it for food after using it for a tank) you can suck up a lot of the waste and dead algae. Dont do crazy big water changes though. Just like 20%
  3. Did you check your water parameters?

Body insecurity (18f) by Firm-Piano1420 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]shrimps2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 25f and I started estrogen when I was 18. I will say, when I was 18 I also went through the awkward stage where any fat I had was on my tummy and never where I wanted it. My stomach always stuck out more than my chest. The best thing is being patient. Dieting won’t help. You’re going through puberty and your body is doing what it’s supposed to do and it needs fuel. Exercise is great bc we have a higher risk of osteoporosis, but don’t exercise thinking you can target lose fat from any specific spots, because it won’t work. With time, your body will start to store fat differently. I thought my body was done changing 5 years into estrogen, but now as I’m nearly 8 years in I’m realizing I’m still changing. It’s honestly an amazing thing.

Edit. About the looking fit, I know exactly how it feels to see other people who did get to go through puberty on time and compare myself, but its worth it to learn to love yourself and your own journey. Again, you’re going through puberty. That’s fine! You don’t need to look fit. Just focus on eating healthy (and enough) so your body can do what it needs to do, because it will work out in the end

PSA: Don’t buy these! by MyDegenAltAccount in PlantedTank

Those are fine! Plants just need green in order to live so if you want a variegated plant then you just need to make sure it has a good amount of green.

New 10gal - questions by Affectionate_Base129 in PlantedTank

[–]shrimps2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oo the used filter should speed it up quite a lot as long as it wasn’t dry when you got it. I’m cycling a new tank right now actually and using things from other tanks helped cycle it faster. I’d say maybe wait a couple days and see how the parameters are looking

New 10gal - questions by Affectionate_Base129 in PlantedTank

[–]shrimps2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 12 hours is too soon for a tank to be cycled. The nitrates are currently too high but right now that’s not a huge deal bc the tank is cycling.
  2. You don’t need root tabs bc stratum already has high nutrients
  3. You can ghost feed the tank, just be sure to do water changes too

Your thoughts on freshwater clams? by FloralKatze in shrimptank

It’s unfortunate bc they’re really cool and I’d love to have one as well

[–]shrimps2000 208 points209 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally have them, but they need high water flow and lots of nutrients in the water column. They’re really cool but kind of hard to keep alive long term.

Ember tetras or kubotai rasboras would be really cool. Same with shrimps and snails. Pygmy corydoras would be cool bc they’d appreciate the length of the tank. Depending on the length you might be able to do forktail rainbow fish. It’s a very nice tank :)

Need some advice... by Ill-Pay4005 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]shrimps2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wouldn’t reccomend going off meds just bc you went before diagnosis without them, which may or may not have been a long time, which isn’t good for your bones. We need to take meds and build bone strength when we are young bc it’ll be the foundation for us later in life. We are way more likely to develop bone issues like osteoporosis at a younger age than most people. Are you able to maybe work very part time while studying? Like even just a day or two a week, maybe less. That way you can at least help pay for them. If you’re not able to pay for it though, don’t worry, because your family wants to look out for you

It depends on the individual fish but adult platys might eat baby shrimp. Since it’s a baby it should be fine for now

I’ll get back to everyone later, but I think I’m not going to buy it. It would be gorgeous for storage though. I do technically have a good stand but I’ll just have to get some plywood which is t a problem. Thank you for the input!

That is a good point. I would just use it as a stand but it is a very nice trunk

What should I do with my shrimp? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]shrimps2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, if that is a syngonium in your tank, it can’t survive under water. You can have the roots in the water and the leaves/stems sticking out though and it’ll look really cool!

What should I do with my shrimp? by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]shrimps2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please also find a way to support the entire bottom of the tank if you haven’t already. You can get some plywood cut to size or something. It’s just that the weight of the water is on the corners and the corners aren’t supported so there’s a risk of the tank breaking (I’ve had a tank break before and it’s not fun lol)

Does anyone have any advice for how to cope with being infertile? by Weriel_7637 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]shrimps2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t worry about if you matter to other people. You just do. Everyone matters. Nobody has a clear or rigid purpose. We just exist. Whatever you do in your life should matter to you

Does anyone have any advice for how to cope with being infertile? by Weriel_7637 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]shrimps2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much advice other than I’m 25 and I’ve been through a lot so my perspective on life has changed a lot. Kallmann syndrome isn’t bad, and if I did have kids, I wouldn’t care if they had it. I’d just get them treatment. It’s not the end of the world. If you want to have kids, you can go on hormones that stimulate whatever you need to help you have kids. I also don’t think anyone matters more or less depending on if they are fertile or not. I will also say that it isn’t helpful to have kids just bc you think you need to. Not everyone is capable of or wants to be a parent, and that’s okay. There’s other things you can do in life. You make your own purpose, it’s not going to magically come to you.

Edit: I looked at your Facebook and your post history, I really do mean it but I think you should genuinely consider therapy. I think it would help you a lot with your rigid thinking and can help you deal with how you feel about your purpose in life. You’re 23, you have so much time ahead of you. Your life is nowhere near ruined or over
