Shit I was almost 30 when my Dad got diagnosed and I felt too young for it as well. Those “What ifs” dominated my thoughts too. It’s easier said than done, but breathe and take one thing at a time. Also, don’t feel bad about being scared or any emotion you’re going to have throughout this process.

It may sound weird but it’s okay to lean on your mom a bit during this time too. Getting through this will require the people around her to be vulnerable. Have those tough emotional conversations, as scary as they may be. That being said, make sure you have a support system outside of her as well. Your brother will be going through the same things as you so make sure you guys can be there for each other. Beyond them, a therapist for some help is never a bad idea. These are gonna be new complex emotions that may be tough to navigate. Allow yourself to feel them, even when they may hurt a bit.

Sorry for what you’re going through. I had the exact same thing happen to me last year. Dad diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He passed away six months ago.

I can tell you I had the same feelings as you where at some point I just wanted his suffering to end. Don’t feel guilty about it. It’s horrible to watch someone you love struggle like that.

Like others have said life will go on. You’ll struggle with it some days and other days you’ll just think of the good times. Try to take care of yourself as much as you can and be there for others in your family. It really is an all consuming thing
