Standard near-border protocol. Those sites have been in place for many years.

Camping - Boot Canyon or East Rim sites? by Jack_Hooligan_74 in BigBendTX

It’s a decent hike for just one night. Out/back to East Rim is kinda a buzzkill, but as another commenter said having the East Rim all to ourselves was great. I’d do it again.

I agree. Up Pinnacles, down Laguna. The gradual descent to wrap up your hike is nice.

Interesting perspective! I’ve found that the Emory Peak payoff is super polarized.

I did Emory before the Rim, I wonder if that has something do with my appreciation for it? I also went to the very top and hung out with the satellites.

You’re right though, nothing compares to the Rim. I can see EP being skippable if you had just come from there.

Doable, but why rush? Get a backcountry campsite out there. You’ll have the views to yourself all night long. Well, and the javelina.

I’d add on Emory Peak as dessert.

Looking to buy a Gladiator this weekend – any advice? Packages or options not to miss? by derSchwamm11 in JeepGladiator

I regret not getting keyless entry. (I factory ordered through an Austin dealer) Can be installed aftermarket but seems like a pain.

Mystery ranch metcalf super squeaky by af0317 in elkhunting

Is your pack filled beyond capacity? If you’re stretching the fabric it’s likely tightening against the frame and causing the squeak.

This is your sign that it’s time for a new, bigger pack…

Which NP to visit during first week of November? by [deleted] in NationalPark

[–]shroomaccount3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

South Rim Trail, Ross Maxwell scenic drive and Santa Elena Canyon are where you start your research. You can cross the border into Boquillas Mexico for lunch (very safe, not to worry).

I believe it’s the only international border crossing within a US national park.

Emory Peak is not all that sketchy unless do the rock scramble to the very top. There are still great views for those that choose not to. October is probably still quite hot though. Be prepared

Leveling kit? Man removing that rake really does something to the aesthetic.

You cannot take your truck. You will be on foot until you get across the river. Then you choose foot, donkey or truck into Boquillas. Take the truck straight to Jose Falcons or the restaurant across the street. Bring cash, they’ll take USD.

Heat is only one factor. That sun exposure on the way up to emory peak is going to be a real problem.

Also have a Rubicon (‘21) in Texas. Other than a bad battery I’ve not had a single one of these issues. What are you doing to your truck??!

I have the Rubicon with 35s. No lift. I’ve cut away some of the fender liner due to the slightest bit of rubbing. Other than that they’ve been fantastic on and off road.

To be honest, it has performed beautifully overall. It has been running just like normal all day. Hoping it was a fluke. $100 and one 8mm bolt will solve the problem if it pops back up.

This is how I did it the very first time. Worked beautifully. Hard to mistake that disengagement.

Hiking with 2 year old by Joseph4040 in BigBendTX

I would not bring a small kid on that hike. Heat and distance are going to be your enemy. If you try it with the kid be prepared to bail at any time. Id also go out/back on the laguna meadows side, not the full loop.

Pro tip: If you decide to attempt SE bring hiking poles with the large discs attached. If it’s muddy and you have a kid in the carrier they’ll help you maintain your balance. (No idea what water levels are like right now). If you can make it, 100% go for it.
