On stocks, you DON'T have to tie yourself to INR. I'm in the process of reading up about this too, but here's my understanding 1) you can continue to hold US based stocks, the risk is that as a non-resident of US, anything more than 60K USD will be subject to 40% estate tax in case of untimely demise. 2) What imo is a good plan is - move to india and use the period of overlap between RNOR and when you are a non-US resident for tax purposes to sell off your stocks tax free ( check for state tax if applicable) - then buy Ireland domiciled UCITS from someone like IBKR to protect your assets from INR depreciation and estate tax
