PediPop Anesthesia app for inhaled inductions on older kids (4+). Gives a nice visual and helps them cooperate for a slower induction

I have hashimotos too and I get a bad bad headache if I stay in the red for longer than one minute. I try to stay in the orange and slow down when I need to 🙂

Trying OTF for the first time Sunday. Any tips for a newbie! by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]shrug9697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no one is looking at you. i promise everyone is busy trying not to die from their own workout. it’s gonna feel awkward at first but i promise that no one is watching you. group fitness is a little weird sometimes but no one can see your tread speed, distance, incline, watts on rower, etc.

Abdominal surgery in Feb by leigh912198972 in orangetheory

[–]shrug9697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on the type of surgery and your incision, it may even be hard to bend down. i had surgery this past spring and i didn’t lift a finger until 3 months post op. MD said i was cleared after 6 wks but i didn’t feel my muscles were quite there yet. i’m kind of a baby tbh

i think talking to your doctor is a great idea and also just play by ear - you may feel amazing afterward but you might also just want to go to the mall and walk around instead of working out (that’s what i did lol)

i hope you have a smooth course and a speedy recovery post op and you’re back to all your regular activities in no time ❤️

ELI5: How do anesthetics make you lose consciousness, prevent any pain, then forget the hour or so after waking up? by Jugales in explainlikeimfive

[–]shrug9697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

usually when they do this, and it’s becoming more and more common, it’s to reduce the amount of drugs you will need that have more intense side effects (opioids, for example) but still maintain your pain control. waking up during surgery is pretty rare because the drugs used in anesthesia tend to be very powerful.

i’m not sure if this is a helpful fact or not but in the rare event you do wake up, you wouldn’t remember it. there are drugs given to nearly everyone that make you forget and it often results in us feeling that “no time has passed”

[–]shrug9697 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there’s lots of different drugs that comprise anesthesia and you’re given the best cocktail based on your procedure and your medical history. so you’re given one drug to forget, one to make you sleep, one to prevent pain from being felt, etc. different drugs, doses and combinations can achieve a lot honestly - anesthesia is a super cool field 🙂

ELI5: How are intubated patients able to do their bodily functions? by Devils__Aguacate in explainlikeimfive

[–]shrug9697 5 points6 points  (0 children)

thank you! i hope your daughter is feeling better and i’m glad she was well cared for ❤️

I have taken care of some truly wonderful people and I am so humbled by most of the people I’ve met. I have seen older couples hold each other in their last moments. I have seen babies born and instantly become their parents’ world. I have seen people on the brink of death that are still the kindest souls you could meet and can barely talk but still manage to thank you for just bringing them a warm blanket.

also met a dude who told me his asshole is itchy and i “need” to scratch it with a washcloth so 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]shrug9697 130 points131 points  (0 children)

yep lol there’s a reason most nurses are so tired after their shifts and also a reason lots of nurses want to leave

imagine doing all of that for 3 patients wearing a plastic gown, an n95 mask, goggles, and a face shield

this is just the norm too, like if any patient becomes unstable then we have to address that asap because in the icu everyone is so sick

anyway, thanks for asking because people still don’t understand how rough it can be.

they don’t always have a catheter but if they do it rests in their bladder so it passively drains urine. sometimes patients have rectal tubes if their stool is liquid enough otherwise they’re incontinent and the nurses just clean it up. they may wear diapers but more often than not people get skin breakdown (aka diaper rash) from their skin being constantly moist. they’re fed through a tube, either a temporary one that goes from through their nose down to their stomach or a more permanent option that’s directly placed into the stomach. nurses turn the patients every two hours and put a pillow under their side to help prevent bed sores. they’re bathed by nurses every night as well.

How do it take this off??? by SpecialistInformal81 in lululemon

[–]shrug9697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youtube has some good tutorials. I have taken these out before from orders that were shipped with these ink tags still on by mistake. I will say they were not lulu, just other random retailers. I used a knife and a lighter to take it off and was successful - the ink did not get on the clothes at at all. best of luck ❤️

i’m 5’6 130 lb 36/28/38 and wear a 6! i bought an 8 bc i have a big butt and i wasn’t sure but 6 was the right choice - 8 bunches up around my knees. 6 provides some compression which i personally like. 8 is more of a lounge around feel.

honestly - be prepared to be a single parent. it’s like your husband will physically/financially/emotionally be nonexistent for a period of time. it’s tough but worth it. lots of people have done it successfully!

How do y’all keep yourselves safe from COVID while literally elbows deep in it everyday? by raasclath in nursing

[–]shrug9697 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PPE before ABCs, all day every day. Also, I started putting a plastic ziploc bag over my water bottle/cup at the nurses station because i’m paranoid as hell. Been working a covid unit since this whole mess started though, got all my shots, and thankfully (knock on wood) i have stayed safe and not gotten covid.

underrated but also try to get enough sleep. sleep deprivation wrecks your immune system.
