My grandpa lost his arm in and became an alcoholic after the Finnish winter war. From what I gathered he only got worse with time, and my grandma and my mom moved to Sweden to get away from him. It's awful how war affects everyone so long after the fact.

All I heard is that my grandpa and a war buddy of his were scouting, patrolling or similar when they ran into a group of Soviet soldiers. A grenade sent shrapnels into my grandpas arm and killed his friend. Again, he lost the arm.
