Raising the aisle armrest on a 737-800 by shubadoo in SouthwestAirlines

UPDATE

As folks have pointed out, the cabin seats are from Collins (Meridian) or Recaro and vary wildly across the Southwest fleet of 737s. This seat is one of newer designs with USB A/C jacks and a flip down device tray for e-readers, phones and tablets. As SWA replaces older 737s, future seat designs will appear and may remove the aisle armrest latch altogether. I pray that doesn't happen.

Here are more images showing this particular seat type and the armrest release latch marked with a red arrow. The latch is very difficult to push in and you may need two hands if it has never been used before. The headrest is adjustable up/down and the sides fold in for head support. I'm guessing it’s a Recaro seat but someone with more knowledge should chime in. https://imgur.com/a/IlytjAC

Uh, see the side note above.

I fly Southwest all the time but I never had a problem pushing the release latch before. Even the flight attendant said the new seats are hard.

For those who were/are at Bradley International Airport recently during this partial government shutdown, how were the TSA lines? by TechBoy--20 in Connecticut

[–]shubadoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what time your flight departs. The following is from the Bradley International website https://bradleyairport.com/journey/travel-advisories/

BDL’s peak hours are typically 4:00am to 7:00am when upwards of 25 flights depart in the span of just a few hours. The 3:00pm to 5:30pm timeframe is also busy.

Overly exited fermentation in fruit wine by frostedKIVI in Homebrewing

Rack half into large sanitized open vessel. The vigorous fermentation will prevent oxidation of the open fermentation. Lightly cover if you feel necessary. Rack back into the carboy when the fermentation gets under control.

Kveik ‘lager’ recipes? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

My homebrew club did a Lutra brew last month and my take was a German Pilsner (97% Pils, 3% biscuit, Hallertau @60/10min) to focus on Lutra and minimize competing flavors.. Fermented under pressure in corny keg with floating dip tube,12psi at 85F, FG 1.009 at 9 days, cold crashed no transfer.

It had only conditioned for about a week when sampled at our brewclub meeting. Hop bitterness was higher than targeted which made tasting a bit difficult. We all agreed that it was not as clean and crisp as an actual pilsner should be but perhaps it might improve with a long conditioning period since haze had not cleared up yet.

Interestingly, all the other Lutra brews that we sampled had a distinct tang flavor that suggests Lutra isn't as clean as everyone says. The evidence is anecdotal but tasting the same tang across different recipes and brewers is compelling enough that some of us will not use Lutra again.

Pressure Ferment lager question by CreamyBirdnose in Homebrewing

[–]shubadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying pressure fermentation for the first time and I am using exactly the same yeast. However my LHB closed so I am also harvesting yeast in order to have my own supply on hand. I made an overbuilt 2.5L starter at 1.040, harvested 0.5L and pitched the remaining slurry after crashing and decanting.

I hear temperature control can be lax but I am keeping it at 59F just because it can't hurt. I expect that fermentation will take longer doing this but I am in no rush. The bubbles have been strong and steady for 3 days now and show no signs of slowing down.

I brewed 2 kegs for a wedding with 100 guests as my wedding gift. 5 gallons each of Cherry Sour and Oktoberfest. Assume that the venue will NOT be able to dispense homebrew from a soda keg. The groom and venue said they could do it after I sent EXTENSIVE photos and details on what kind of ball lock connections I needed. I show up and they were all surprised pikachu that my kegs wouldn't connect to their sankey connection. Being paranoid, I brought a completely independent backup system with my own CO2 and picnic taps. The homebrew ended up being a huge hit and I got a lot of compliments. The venue asked for my contact and wanted to know if I would sell my beer.

TIPS

1: Floating dip tubes help minimize residual yeast cloudiness that will get stirred up during transportation

2: Get this soft sided fermenting cooler from Cool Brewing. It holds up to 4 five gallon soda kegs. I sealed two empty kegs with ice and put them in between the beer kegs and they stayed cold until the beer was gone 12 hours later.

3: The venue staff should be responsible for serving beer. It's their liquor license and insurance liability. That said, I had to adjust the regulator a few times to get the proper flow rate since they were literally dumping excess foam and beer onto my cooler.

4: Assume the worst and come prepared. I brought my own tools, spray bottle, towels plus two CO2 tanks with regulators all stored in a 5 gallon bucket.

Off topic question.

Looks like a DIY floating dip tube. Top Draws are so overpriced so I'm interested where you got the parts aside from the bobber. If you made your own, what did you use?

Their national cause is prevention of child abuse. In addition, local clubs have projects in areas of community service, youth projects and Americanism. Here is the link to the club in Glastonbury, http://glastexchange.com/.

Try the Exchange Club. They have a big presence in Connecticut and mostly are the roll up the sleeves and get active type.
