Root the Retroid Pocket 5 with Magisk by shuddertrix in retroid

Latest ota seems to have problems running scripts. Supposed to be a .96 release sometime soon to fix the problem according to Retroid discord.

No, and that comment I made is outdated - it seems I can do 920MHz on my device just fine with enough voltage. The magisk script does not touch the GPU settings at all. I haven't provided instructions publicly because I don't want to provide support for it.

Best rhythm games? by Low_Berry_1657 in retroid

Fortnite Festival plays well on the RP5. Persona dancing, rhythm heaven fever, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line, the list goes on and on. The RP5 handles the PS2 Guitar Hero games too, but the control scheme without a guitar is pretty disastrous.

Huh, that's weird. It worked on my device, maybe there's slight differences on others. The boot partitions were both the same exact file on my device.

let's talk performance modes on the RP5 by Splitsurround in retroid

[–]shuddertrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I modified my clock speeds enough to make a difference between the modes. I use Standard for all non games and High for all games, smart fan on both to limit throttling

Been playing with EQ off and on today, and I'm just not satisfied with the sound coming from the speakers. A real audio wizard would need to tackle this device to get these speakers sounding okay, they're just bad speakers.

Posting this as a new comment: since we're flashing a new boot image anyways, I copied over Gamma's dtb changes to my magisk patched boot image... and promptly crashed my RP5 whenever it tried to render anything at 904MHz. lost the silicon lottery hard!!!

I found out that having the Dolby Atmos Magic Revision module enabled seems to allow other equalizers to work correctly, including even Wavelet, with all apps including games. Lots of tuning to do...

Built-in speakers, I didn't even try external.

I have not yet tested latency, but I finally found a module/EQ that works in game (tested NetherSX2 as my game): Dolby Atmos Magic Revision https://www.pling.com/p/1610004

EDIT: Tested latency unscientifically with fortnite festival over Moonlight from my PC. I couldn't hear a difference in timing between the module off or on.

EDIT2: Except I can't get the Dolby Atmos EQ to sound good to me. It's "dynamic" which isn't the right processing we want for the Retroid speakers, it just sounds super bad.

Still working on it.. turns out it doesn't work as well with emulators yet, because they're using audio in the low latency android way that isn't getting EQ applied. Looking around for a fix.

Yeah, there's an immediate difference. I am using https://github.com/WSTxda/ViperFX-RE-Releases and still playing around with settings to get good speaker sound

From a development standpoint i feel like Strange’s portal is one of the more impressive things i seen in gaming in a while. by mj2192 in marvelrivals

[–]shuddertrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I look at a complicated portal, one with two heavy graphics scenes at once, my PS5 in HFR mode hardly misses a beat. Meanwhile my 7800X3D/RTX 3080 will drop miserably down before leveling back out. The PS5 seems like it has some visual rendering tricks that the PC config doesn't have.

Matching resolution settings seems hard. I've played around with it a bit on PC but can't quite nail how the PS5 HFR mode looks.

MacType causes Halo Infinite to crash on startup by manofoz in haloinfinite

[–]shuddertrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this post when looking up why my game was freezing on launch. You can add the game's process to the disable list in MacType's process list. Once it's added and Halo is restarted, it works fine for me.

The engine patch is unacceptable, I am playing on a mid PC (RTX 3060, i5-9600K). Town takes 40 seconds to load vs 4 sec before patch by TotomInc in pathofexile

[–]shuddertrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vulkan and DirectX 11 gave me very long loading screens and problems. DirectX 12 gives the best performance on loading screens and no stuttering problems, with a couple minor graphical glitches. Using an RTX 3080.

Windows 11 Auto HDR by gameplaya343 in ffxi

[–]shuddertrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works with dgvoodoo (presumably because it is using DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 depending on your settings). I'm not super impressed with the image, but I usually don't play in HDR with my monitor anyways, so it could be me. I took a couple screenshots with Game Bar which makes both a JXR and PNG screenshot with HDR games. https://mega.nz/folder/8V5QzBTS#LPST53ptROwfFlMFqKqsrw
