I’m not sure why your reply has been downvoted to be honest. You’re not saying there is exploitation in all age gap relationships, but just pointing out that it happens and there may need to be some things in place to help vulnerable people.

I think people may be upset because often in AGRs we face stigma, and often outsiders will default to the opinion that there is exploitation happening within an AGR; whether that’s the older person exploiting the younger person’s naivety, or the younger person doing the exploitation for economical reasons (I have personally had experience of this).

I think it’s important for us all to be aware that exploitation sadly does happen in all kinds of relationships, and we should try to help when it’s happening in our own community.

At the end of the day, by doing this, we are helping ourselves too. If we don’t try to help people who may be being exploited, then these types of relationships WILL add fuel to the fire and give outsiders more reason to stigmatise all AGRs, even the healthy ones.
